PUBG disappointment

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a reconditioned Pixel 7 Pro and I love it. The camera, software and feel are fantastic and battery life is decent.

However, I do love to play the odd game of PUBG and am so disappointed with how well the game plays on this phone. It is almost unplayable. I have it set to lowest graphics and highest frame rate but it is choppy to play. So disappointing - it played better on my previous phone (Galaxy A52s). I do so seem to be getting 60 FPS but it is just horrible to play.

Just wondering if anyone plays PUBG and found some settings to tweak to make it play smoother or I might just have to keep my old phone solely for playing PUBG!

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! You're using the official version from the Play Store, and not some APK, right?

Yes using the official apk. Seems like there is nothing I can do without rooting which I really don't want to do.

Since the Tensor chip is based on Exynos, it'd be interesting to see if PUBG also has similar issues on other Exynos devices. (As far as I can tell, your Galaxy A52s uses a Snapdragon.)

Yes A52s is Snapdragon and PUBG is probably more suited to that processor. However, it appears that Google has made a decision to deliberately strangle frame rates. You do have to question the thinking around this. Not sure if other games suffer from a similar issue.

It may have to do with the Tensor G2's propensity to overheat, so it might be a way to prevent that.

Yes I think you are right. It feels a bit too aggressive though. Early on in a game, when phone feels fine, it is crap to play. I guess I will hang on to my A52s simply for my PUBG fix.
