Pulled the trigger

Ok guys. I just pulled the trigger on a new Nexus. The leap day sale was enough to make me go for it. It's scheduled for delivery sometime today. I thought I had done my due diligence research by reading lots of positive reviews online. In my excitement to learn more about the phone, I turned to these forums. I was dismayed to learn about all the problems people seem to be having with this phone, especially the reception issues. On the other hand, I have read many posts where people say it's the best phone ever. I know that many times the people doing the posting are a vocal unhappy minority. I am not saying that they don't have legitimate gripes. I an just hoping that there is a very happy majority out there that we are not hearing from. To boil down my question. Is the phone really as bad as these forums would lead one to believe? I was really looking forward to a google phone with ice cream sandwich. I love my Droid X, but it is getting a little long in the tooth. Thanks in advance for any who take their time to reply.

No issues here whatsoever...well except for the multi touch.issue in gaming. But.otherwise perfectly smooth experience for me. People who have issues with their phones are much more likely to post than people like me who are busy enjoying their phone. Go to any forum and you'll see plenty of complaints.

Every day I find out something new and amazing about the phone or ICS or LTE. Put me on the happy list.

The other day I did a Speed Test that got 37M down on LTE! Since I only get 30M on FIOS fiber, that is simply amazing!

Lots of users are experiencing signal issues, but it's hit or miss, I personally don't have signal issues.
My main issue is with javascript, it hurts the web browsing experience on some sites.

I see the javascript problems are fixed on some alternate ROMs so I'm hopeful when we finally receive an update it will be fixed.

I just pulled the trigger too. Ive had android from the 1st sdk was released in 06'. Which leads me to these two questions. Is anybody ever going to get used to the fact you no longer long press for widgets? Is there any way to get the google search off every home screen and just on one like it always has been? Orher than that after all these years im stoked to finally have a nexus.

I agree with xxslashxxdroid. You will find people with issues for every phone from faulty hardware to software issues. And it is unfortunate that these people are having such issue to sour their experience with the device that they otherwise could have loved. And as you stated the unhappy are usually more vocal then the happy.

I for one have not had any issues with my GNex and as most people who are not having issues will say, it is the best android phone i have ever had, though i have only had 3 (G1, Fascinate, GNex) :D

3rd party launchers allow you to long press for widgets and remove the search bar.
The hype is surrounding nova launcher, but I prefer go launcher if only because it has a menu button, nova doesn't.

like the other guy said, more people come to forums to complain than come to praise a phone.

this is simply put, the best phone available right now.
amazing screen
looks fantastic
battery life is acceptable
great accessories
the best OS available
fast updates
LTE
it just works....after having the droid X and thunderbolt i have never had a phone "just work" like this one does. it fantastic.

sure the signal is an "issue" but i have never been without data or signal to where i couldn't download something or make a phone call. plus, i have confidence radio updates will fix it eventually.

it may not be the best spec'd phone out there, but it will be a great phone for 2 years....and thats why i bought it.

Been using droids since OG Droid and even had an iPhone 4 and 4s from family and friends and I believe that this is my overall favorite phone. I haven't had a reception issue, love the size and the screen and most of all I love ICS. I didn't think Android could get much better than Gingerbread that I had my Bionic but it is truly a disservice to the Android community to not put ICS on phones being released. I wouldn't call this the best phone ever but this is one of the greats.

I have a slew of Android phones since my buddy hooks me up from work and this is how I would rank my past devices:

GNexus
Bionic
Thunderbolt
iPhone 4s
Droid X

You can remove the search bar two different ways. Yu can disable the search bar in the apps list, but you wont be able to use the additional space that it clears up. or you can download and run nova launcher on your phone, which will also clear out that space, and that will actually let you use it.

I personally have grown accustom to it being there and its actually rather useful when you get acquainted with voice commands.

To stay on topic, I love my GNex. Simply amazing phone and I would also go as far as saying the best on the market right now simply because it wont date itself as easily as the rest of the phones on the market. We have had ICS for almost 3 months now exclusively (except the Galaxy S of course) and its looking like that trend will stick for at least another month maybe even 2 months in the states. And we will be right behind the next Nexus in getting Jelly Bean, and may even get the android update after that if you plan on keeping it that long.

I am a Nexus owner, I wouldn't even consider swapping it for anything else on the market right now.

Picked up the Verizon Nexus yesterday and count me in too for being happy. Coming from an iPhone 4s it is a huge improvement. I was kind of glad to get away from AT&T as they don't like people using their network and will throttle unlimited users at 3GB now. Verizon 4G LTE speeds are amazing. Nothing special at home but oh well, that's what wifi is for. Call quality on the Nexus doesn't seem as good as the iPhone 4s had on AT&T but maybe that's me?

The signal and wifi signal do seem a little low but no matter what calls are fine and wifi never disconnects. Ice Cream Sandwich is very smooth but could be a lot smoother. Hopefully that infamous update comes sometime this month to help the phone's signal and be a little more smooth. But other than that, its an excellent phone and I look forward to using it as my main device.

I have had my nexus for 4 days now. Their are more positives than negatives with the galaxy nexus. I was apprehensive on getting it because of all the bad press. I also have a thunderbolt and that had a lot of bad press shortly after it came out. My house is in a 4G challenged area. I will go from 4G to 3G off and on, while my thunderbolt stays on 4G. When I get to a stronger signal of 4G on my nexus, I pull 30Mbps down and 16Mbps up. My thunderbolt is not even close to that. I also haven't had any issues making or receiving calls, even at -110dBm to -120dBm.

Also a new Nexus user, and following these issues very carefully.

What I like so far...
- no "signal issues" per se... phone gets acceptable range compared to my Incredible
- ICS is great, could use some tweaking, but overall - works
- awesome form factor, screen is amazing, overall the rest of the phone is fantastic
- Battery is a 'tweener... It's not great, but it's not horrible. Gets through the day for sure though, so far. Since I bought at Costco last week, I have a free extended battery coming, but not sure I'll use it because I don't want the phone to be much bigger. I'd really like an extended battery that can fit in the same case.

Concerns...
- Dropped data. This has happened at least 2-3x/day, where I'll look at the phone and there's no 3G/4G, nothing nada. Still have signal, can call/text, but no data. Sometimes for HOURS. That's unacceptable.
- Volumes... At max volume, I can barely hear my notifications. The playback volume for video is also low, and phone call volume ain't great either. Overall, just seems weak. Very stupid thing to have screwed up on an otherwise good phone.

So jury's still out. I have until next Saturday to return it and get my upgrade back, but since I bought at Costco, I have 3 months to exchange it if something better comes along or if software updates are inadequate. I would say I'm 50/50 on keeping it after next week right now. I definitely intend to check out the Rezound and Razr Maxx more carefully, to see what they have to offer (especially the Rezound, considering I'm coming off an Incredible which I really liked).

I have the extended battery and it is not much bigger then the normal battery at all. I very slight almost unnoticeable bump on the back. If it had come with it i would not have even noticed it at all.

Yeah that sounds promising, I think I'll compare when I get it, and order another case if I decide to keep it. I really like the Seidio line of cases (Convert), so I guess I'll have to either have two (I have one already for the non-extended battery) or sell the non-extended one.

Thanks to all for your input. I feel much better. My Nexus was delivered a couple of hours ago and so far I am loving it.

I pulled the trigger as well when Costco had the Gnex with extended battery, case, car charger combo for 219.00 last weekend. Super happy with the phone
