Purchased new battery, now battery indicator is inaccurate.

I purchased a new battery for my Atrix, from the AC store. It is the genuine Motorola BH6X, and is identical to the original battery. I put the new battery in and charged it to 100% from 80%. Within 4 or 5 hours, the battery level ran down so low that the phone powered off by itself. I was not present when this happened, but I noticed that the phone had rebooted (on its own) and now it was saying the battery was at 70%. About 4 or 5 hours later, the battery indicator dropped to 5%, but it continued to indicate a 5% charge for 12 hours before the phone turned off on its own and the battery was truly dead.

I charged it back to 100%, and unplugged it about an hour ago. It is currently sitting at about 88% according to the battery use graph. I will report back later with an update on the battery level.

Is there a trick to getting the battery indicator to show a somewhat accurate charge? I would have hoped draining the battery to 0% than fully charging it up would be enough. Could the battery be faulty? My Atrix is on the latest official software (.141) and not rooted or unlocked.

I would like to avoid rooting, as something as simple as replacing a battery should not require this much effort to work properly.

UPDATE: Battery has dipped below 80% with less than 10 minutes of screen on time. It has been off the charger for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Because its a new battery, you probably just need to condition it. That means going from 100% to 0% three times. And when charging, charge with the phone off. Also, as soon as the phone shows 100% when charging, don't charge anymore.

And if you wanna are your phones battery in 1% increments, get the battery indicator widget by darshan computing and then go into setting and click 'one percent hack.

I have found that the Atrix is not very good about accurately reporting your battery, especially if you turn it off and back on, it could be at 73% before you turn it off and at 90% when you power the phone back on.

I hope that they fix this with the ICS upgrade.

I know this isn't an option for most, but doing a hard reset on mine has trimmed the battery usage quite nicely. I'm sitting on %73 after 11 hours of being off the charger. Mixed usage, bluetooth running. I bought mine as a refurb and it wouldn't make it through the day on a charge before.
