how does one go about pushing a file?

Can you be more specific? You want to push from/to where? I assume you're talking about adb commands but I want to be sure before I start explaining that and its not what you're talking about.

If you haven't already done so, purchase and download Root Explorer from the market. Download the GPS fix to the base of your sd card. Open Root Explorer, click on the sd card folder, scroll to the gps fix file, long press on the file and choose move, you will see two gray bars at the bottom of the screen with the left one being "paste". Use the back soft key once, scroll to the etc file and click on it, then click the paste button. Done. If you get an error saying it is a read or write only file, just click the gray box at the top of the screen that will either read r/o or r/w.
