Is there a way to put a portable version of a movie on the fasinate ive been trying to find a way

what exactly are you trying to install? do you just want to be able to watch movies on your phone? do you have movies in particular that you have that you want to put on your phone?

If you have a digital copy of the movie on your computer, you just have to transfer it to a folder (create a movie folder) on your sd card.

The movie needs to be in a format the Fascinate will like. A program called Handbrake is very popular for this purpose. I have converted DVDs and other videos for use by mobile devices, but I have not tried anything on the Fascinate yet. The important thing to know is the ideal bitrate and video resolution for the phone.

I read somewhere that the Fascinate is supposed to support MKV encapsulated files; but I have not had any luck running existing mkv files on the phone. Can anyone shed some light on what exact video codecs it supports?

Edit: the first MKV file I tried must have been quirky. I just dropped a MKV with 1280x720 AVC1 video in it on the phone and it liked it...

I read that MKV files are really high quality within a small file size. What's the file size of the movie you have? Where do you get your movies in MKV format? I use DVD Fab Platinum to convert my DVDs to MPEG4. I set the resolution to 720x404 and bump up the volume to 150%. File size for Avatar is just shy of 3GB. I copy a lot of movies for my wife's iTouch so that the kids can have something to watch while we're out & about. I use the same settings for my Fascinate and the picture quality & size is pretty much perfect.

I tried out a 720p rip of a tv show, the compression runs about 1.5 gb/hr for that res and the picture quality is perfect and the sound quality is beyond what you could hear from the phone speaker or headphones. I have no doubt that at a res optimized for the fascinate, and 2ch dolby digital stereo you could get well under 1gb/hr and still have perfect quality.
