Does anyone really know what this is? I have been monitoring my TB since i got it yesterday and ive notice that this PVMtSS is eating 89% of resources constantly - whereas os, standby and idle are consuming 5% and 3 and 3% respectively.

I'd really like to know what this is that seems to be the killer of the battery. I really love the phone, but it may be on it's way back to vzw. I'm not fighting with a battery.

If you accidentally left out a p, "The Google" tells me that "PVMtpServiceStart and PVWmdrmService are related to Digital Rights Management for the blockbuster (and potentially other apps (netflix?) in the future)" either way it shouldnt be eating up your battery. It isnt on mine. Did you play with blockbuster by any chance?

No i did not, but i have been monitoring what's going on in battery manager to see what i can adjust to balance out power consumption, but i noticed that since yesterday that that has been at the top of the list constantly, so i went in and told the program not to update itself which it was set to. I will restart the phone and see what's going on.

update - so i went into the blockbuster app, updated it in the market and then reopened it. then i went into settings and disabled all auto update services for it, restarted phone. now under battery management i no longer see the PVMtSS running. I'll still have to monitor and see if it starts up later

Good luck with it. It all makes me ask. Blockbuster? are they still in business? Does the app help you drive to the store and pay late fees? :)

i second that pvmtpservicestart is also a draining my battery as well... past few hrs, it accounted for 79% of killing my battery life...

20 mins of angry birds, and the rest of the time the phone has been idle (phone has been running for roughly 3 hrs), im down to 60% of my battery bar, with pvmtpservicestart accounting for 79% of the usage...

i force closed it, will see what happens...

I am having this same problem. I never touched blockbuster, but after reading this I opened it and it downloaded an update. I then disabled background movie downloading and just restarted the phone. Hopefully this does the trick. This one process took 48% of my battery....

Interesting. I see it running, but it is not draining my battery nor does it show up in settings > about phone > battery > battery use. I believe it has something to do with DRM. Maybe some other DRM issue woke it up and is keeping it busy? like an app or music / content that is protected and uses the service.

Seems to be fixed

Since updating BlockB app and then going into its setting and disabling its auto update content feature. it has not showing back up (mine was running at 89%) and i have restarted three times to test, even with battery pull. I no longer see it, and battery is much better.

Interesting. I haven't seen this pop up at all in my Battery Use menu. My screen seems to use 60%-75% of mine at any time. I'm just using Pandora all day.

PVMtpServiceStart Battery Killer

I just got my Thunderbolt on Thursday and have noticed the battery life is just horrible. I have the same issue, I went in to battery management and noticed that PVMtpServiceStart was consuming almost 80% of my battery life. I never went in to the blockbuster app until I read these posts. So I did the same thing Alcor34 did and I will keep everyone up to date if it helps. Did anyone else find anything else out about this?

amazing, VZW held the phone up for a month for battery issues and you guys figured it out in a couple of days :)

They should really let us delete this bloatware garbage right off the bat. Its my damn phone. I should put on there what I want.

I don't want to exaggerate, but if it turns out this app is the problem it almost sounds like a reason to sue Verizon. It's bad enough that they don't let you uninstall apps that you don't use are not essential to the core functions of a (smart) phone. But if it turns out it actually severely impacts the performance of the phone (ie battery life), it's pretty scandalous.

I mean blockbuster filed for bankruptcy right? Just seeing their logo in our list of apps is confusing enough.

I'm gonna play devils advocate here

A software bug is not enough of a reason to sue, especially considering the device was released 4 days ago. As for the fact Verizon does not allow you to remove default apps, this is a choice they made while the device is being designed. It is simply that, a design choice, nobody forced you to buy the phone. You should have had the opportunity to play with the device before you purchased it which protects them from a lawsuit among other things.

Lastly Blockbuster has filed for "bankruptcy" but all this means in this case, is they have filed for protection while they reorganize and work out payment terms with their creditors under the guidance of the court system.

I hope this clears this up for you. If not you should still be able to return it and get your money back.

I've done the update and then "disable sync" on the app, but I still get the service starting once in a while.

I dont understand tis at all. It does not show up in my battery management at all. However, it shows running in the running services menu. In fact it shows that it has been running for 4 hours straight yet it still does not show in the battery management.

I have been getting excellent battery life since I go the phone too. I wonder why it is draining battery on some phones while it does not on mine when it is clearly running non stop.
