Q: Home and Power Button Problems

My Note 3 has been doing something weird lately. It's happened three times now.
My home and power buttons suddenly don't work properly.
My home button doesn't go to the home screen when I'm on a different screen (any screen). When I hold the home button, it will take me to recent apps, task manager, etc. But will do nothing when I press it once (to go to the home screen) or twice (to open Samsung Voice).
Also, pressing and holding the power button (from an awake state) will do nothing!
When the device is "asleep", pressing the home or power button will not take me to the lock screen. It will skip the lock screen and take me directly to the home screen.

Is anyone else having this problem?? I'm not sure what to do about it or if there is anything I can do about it!

My friend I am in these forums every day and I have never heard of so many problems like the ones you have all at once. If you have already done a battery pull and perhaps a factory reset and still doing it the only thing to advise you is to have that phone replaced.

Mine seems to be fine for the moment I would take it back where you got it and see on a replacement.

Mine has done this twice. Had to remove the battery to reboot.. Hope it's not another defect. This is my second note 3

Hello,
Did you fix this problem ? My Note 3 has the same problem, I've searched the web for a solution, but without success.
I'm using Apex launcher, I've disabled it but it didn't change anything.

Yeah mine did that too once.
Seeing that others have experienced this, it surely is a bug that should be sorted out among others in an update.

I dont know the stock launcher well, and I dont know if you are using stock, but Nova can has options to change what these things do. for example when I double tap home, It now opens google now search instead of the samsung one. did you or someone mess with those options?

I had the exact same problem, exactly how you described. It happened a few days ago, and a battery pull fixed it. Hasn't happened since then.

Yup. Happened to me twice now but a simple reboot fixed it. Although imho, I think it's 4.3 and not the phone hardware.

Mine does it as well... 3 times now. Pretty sure it came after 4.3 update and it seems to do it when I plug in the charger. (but not every time) one morning I noticed it because my alarm didn't go off (which is a VERY big problem I think)

I had awoken 5 minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off so I was just waiting for it, but it didn't happen, so I set the alarm to 2 minutes later and here I noticed that my home and power button did exactly as OP described.

I wen't in to setttings > [device tab] accessibility > (3rd from the bottom) assistant menu. And from here you can choose to restart the phone, which resolves the lockdown of the two buttons... Untill next time.

It really annoys me not knowing when my alarms won't go off so I hope Sammy gets their act together and fixes this issue.

P. S have tried installing Nova launcher as well but to no avail

P. P. S will try a wipe and a reset to see if that helps and will edit this post if it's a success.

I'm not sure I am having the same problem as you, but I noticed that you are using Nova Launcher. My problem is that when ever I hit the back button I have to confirm Nova Launcher as "Launch as default". I confirm that I want it to default as always, but the next time I go to use the phone and I hit the back button, I have to confirm the "Launch by default". It is not a huge deal, but every time I want to go back, I have to confirm the default setting. Does anyone know a way to get the phone to remember the default setting for Nova Launcher? I have another friend who has the same problem with the default back (not Nova Launcher). His phone will not remember the "Launch by Default". Any ideas? Dan

I found a fix for the Nova Launcher default problem. Uninstall the latest update on Google Search and the problem stopped on my Note 3

I am definitely having the home key button especially as it relates to going from the sleep state to the lock screen state. I have to press the home key several times In order to get to the lock screen.
