Question about Contact List that is used by the Bluetooth/car

I just got the new Note 4 edge and love it. Lots of new features to learn with lollypop (ATT) and the edge. I synced the phone with my car but no contacts came up on the car (08'Audi RS4). I have my contacts on the Note 4 using my Outlook.com account but have not put any contacts in the SIM or the Phone itself. Would copying these contacts to either of those places (SIM or Phone) work?

Appreciate any info on how this system works.

I believe I have mine synced with both Google and into my phone (Note edge) but it displays all contact info to include picture (13' Cadillac XTS)....hope that helps
