When using the t9 trace samsung keyboard or the swype keyboard, how do you make it not autoreplace and autochange words you are typing when they are not dictionary words (e.g. e-mail addresses, acronyms, web addresses, etc)? Even when I type single letters instead of swiping, both keyboards seem to always want to replace what I am typing. It's especially annoying if I am trying to type half a word, e.g. for my user name "quantumpion", if I type quantum it will auto correct to that, but then when I try to add "pion" it either adds a space, or overrides the first part of the word. I know I can add specific words like my user name to the dictionary but I mean in a general case how do I avoid this?

If you are using the Swype beta then there is a setting where you can turn auotcorrect off.

Also you have to type the word you want and when done before hitting space, hit the button where the word is usually where the word predictions come up.

So type quantumpion and then hit the button with the word on it before hitting space. Then it will learn that word.

Quantumpion <= just Swyped that no problem.

The problem I am having is that typing in a non-dictionary word does not show the option for the raw letters that I typed, the only predictions are corrected, dictionary words. For an example of what I just tried a second ago, I was trying to search for the word "sound" in the play store. I initially typed the letter s, and then paused. I then wanted to complete the word by typing "ound" but no option to enter those letters was available, the keyboard automatically replaced it with "online".

So are you using the Samsung T9 trace keyboard or the Swype beta? I originally thought the T9 trace was the same, but for me it was terrible at actually correctly generating the word I had traced (especially short words). The Swype beta is WAY better. It took me some time to adjust the settings to my liking, including turning auto-correct off and adding and deleting words from the dictionary, but it has been a much better experience.

Ah nevermind, I see what you mean now. The left-side auto correct option is the raw letters, I just didn't realize it before because I was hitting space bar and getting the autocorrected word.

Hmm. That's weird. This is the stock keyboard?

I would just switch to Swype beta or if you don't want Swype then switch to SwiftKey.

They are both way better than the stock keyboard.

How do we get 'Swype beta' on the S3? I've had it with the T9 Trace on this thing.. Swype on my old HTC EVO 4G was SO much better! :(

Thank you! (I was checking the Google Play store and couldn't find it) This has GOT to be better than the T9 Trace cr@p. :/

I am having a similar problem. I just upgraded to the s3 from my htc g2......for my g2, when I would misspell a word it would auto-correct it wen I press the "space" button....is there any way I can make my s3 do that?
Ex.
if i type "theb" it would change it to "then" after i press space (my g2)

Noob here, but just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Had just gotten an S3, also a previous G2 owner, and was expecting Swype to be installed on it. Just kinda figured that was the standard for Android devices.... Boy was i wrong. T-9 sucks compared to Swype! I had used T-9 a long time ago on a phone and back then it was pretty cool, but when you compare it now to the accuracy of Swype, there is no comparison!! I couldn't believe how frequently T-9 was not getting the words that i was trying to type, even the the drop-down menu with all the other possibilities, it was never even coming close!! Anyways, just installed Swype Beta and already a happy camper. The G2 sucked ass, but that was one thing I was already missing in a huge way. Thanks!! :D

go here on your phone Swype | Text Input for Screens and click on "how do i get Swype" then you should be able to download it from there :) I love Swype it's by far my favorite keyboard.
Thanks staticradar! ;)
I had Swype on my Skyrocket and it worked great. Was disappointed when the GS3 only came with 'Google voice typing' & 'Samsung keyboard'.

How does the latest Swype compare with TouchPal V5? I just downloaded TouchPal V5, and so far am just checking it out, but it seems pretty nice, and way, way better than the stock Samsung T9 Trace, as well.

I have the opposite problem:/ when I accidentally mistype a word it saves it and now it keeps thinking for instance when I swipe in because that I'm trying to say "Becausr".I can't find my personal dictionary to delete words or anything like that. It is so frustrating
