Question about setting up Pictures for Home and Lock screen

I wanted to ask a question, what's the best resolution for a picture that's gonna be used as either my home and lock screen of my note 10.1? Most of the pictures I have set up come out looking grainy. I'd appreciate any help since I've only had my tablet for a couple months and am still new to all this.
