Hey I have been looking to get a EVO but I do like my pre I do have it overclocked, patched and customized, My questions is with the EVO dose it also link the calendars from other areas like active exchange, yahoo and gmail in one calendar? how dose it pull email from all the accounts, it it timed or as they come in you get it? How it sync with the accounts, comparable with WebOS. Also what you like and dislike about EVO and Palm Pre or WebOS..

thanks

I'm not sure of your first questions, but I was a former pre-er myself and of course, I'm not sure what the exact reasons of why you are interested in an EVO. But I know that if your main complaint with the pre is the hardware and lack of flash, there is a event on Feb. 9 (i'm not sure if you are aware of that) where palm is going to announce new phones with webos 2.0 which will have flash, so if you love webos, definitely wait till then. I know if they have something good I will be buying one outward. Again, I don't know how big of a fan of webos you are, but if you are, definitely wait.

I agree.. I've had my EVO since release day, but I still find myself wishing I still had my Pre! I can't wait until a new WebOS based phone is released with a big screen and better build quality. I too will be the first in line to buy it..

If having a WebOS phone means leaving this forum for another... Naw! It's not that serious. I prefer Android forum(100%).... to the other forum.

The calendars are not going to work the way you want. Email will be fine you can set to receive push email but you wi burn your battery more quickly. Don't ask about multi-tasking..compared to webos android has none..(it is in fact very limited) having said that, pm will have to build a beast of a phone to get me to awitch from my evo. Webos just doesn't work when you want it to the way you want it to i can't handle the lagginess...i had a sprint pre from launch day (actually 3 over time and was ecstatic to get my evo launch day...i still think webos is in experimentam stage when you have to patch the hell out of your phone to get to do everything you want it to do..

Former PRE - Current EVO

I loved my Pre and WebOS. But the flimsy hardware and Palm's refusal to stand by it, were my biggest complaint.

Also, the feeble marketing that Palm and Sprint had for it never allowed it to gain enough market and mind share to be a competitor.

WebOS is a superior OS in my expert opinion. But success in the market place takes more than coming up with the best software. It has to be backed up by great marketing and solid engineering.

I hope HP makes a difference, but I don't see giving up my EVO any time soon.

If you like your Pre, wait until the announcements next month. If you want a phone that is currently in the wave, the EVO is one of the best.

I got my Evo a few weeks ago after having a Pre for almost 18 months. I had been with Palm in some form or another since the first Palm Pilot came out and since 2002 with their phones. Which is to say I was a huge brand loyalist to Palm.

Well it took me about a day to get over it. I dont miss my Pre at all. The Evo is a really solid phone and so far I like everything about it. Its a little quirky here and there and sure its a bigger form factor to get used to. But I dont miss the Pre at all.

I think WebOS was great but in the end I think an OS is only as good as the company standing behind it. No major updates in the last 5-6 months. No plans for a major update. A barely functioning app store.

If they came back with some kickass hardware I would definitely consider going back if it looked like it would be supported. But to go from an app store with 4,000 apps to one with 100x that is a big jump.

I don't use Yahoo or Exchange, but I have seen an option to add a Exchange calender in Jorte (free app and much better than the stock calender app).

Determine what you like about webOS and the Pre before trying Android and the EVO. Sounds like you're mostly interested in Synergy. You can get the same thing from Android, just not as obvious or directly.

I switched from the Pre a week ago and only miss a few thing: typing to search (lots of scrolling in Android, try to add a widget, it can be a looong list, thankfully you can flick through the list pretty fast) and you can't easily send an email to invitees to a meeting. In webOS you can just tap their name from the invitee list, in android it looks so primed to have a tap and hold context, but you get nothing. Might be a modification out there for it, i've been too busy reading all the other stuff over at xda to look for it.

I had a pixi & a palm pre plus and loved both, but having 2 radios in the pixi die in 9 months was really annoying.

Made the switch to android and it was easy & fun. Sense on the Evo is just like synergy, but better and easier to link contacts. Gmail links wonderfully with calenders (remember that android is built by google)...I don't use yahoo or exchange, so I can't speak to those. Mail comes in right away for me, three different accounts, and no big drain on battery. I used to get about 10 hours on the palm phones, get the same on my evo - and that's running widgets & live wallpaper and using the net constantly.

Multitasking is different, but in terms of ease of use, it's the same. Instead of flicking through open apps, theres a long press of the home button. Some people complain it's not true multitasking because the app doesn't stay open if you leave it, but that's silly, IMO, because it opens back up where you left off...and it opens apps instantly, not like on webos where there is all that loading time.

Getting to learn android is not nearly as hard as some die hard palm people would lead you to believe. Loved webos, but nothing I miss about it as this phone can do sooo much.

Because you got kicked out of the other one?
You're right... but guess what? Not being around you guys open up my eyes that not all people are alike.

I refuse to let you guys win. Have a good life.

(FYI) I have an email in my possession with a message from a member of your group admitting that you guys had purposely made complaints about me.. that lead up to my dismissal. The wonders of private and email messages.

I'm sorry to have taken the thread off topic.
The palm pre has nothing over the EVO.

The EVO can play flash based streams, not sure about Windows media based streams. I doubt it, but direct me to a link and I can check it out.

My favorite stations when I'm in my homeland Trinidad.

Soca 919 (windows media)
96.1 WEFM Live (flash)

Man, if i could get these to play, would make the 10 bucks extra a month I have to give sprint for activating a new smartphone actually worth it.

Thanks a bunch dood.
