How do you feel about the fact that you'll be without LTE until later in the year/next year? Are you OK with dealing with Sprint's 3G speeds until LTE is deployed in your city?

I'm not sure why but I had been under the assumption that Sprint would include WiMax in the Galaxy Nexus to carry folks over until LTE was deployed in their respective cities. Now that I realize that this isn't the case, I'm intending on holding off on purchasing a Galaxy Nexus until San Francisco has LTE, which could be sometime next year.

Sure, WiMax isn't LTE but it sure beats Sprint's crappy 3G. As a current NS4G owner I just can't justify giving it up for a Galaxy Nexus now. To the early adopters intending on doing this anyway - what are your thoughts?

I've never had 4G, makes no difference to me when LTE arrives.

I also have zero issue with 'slow' 3G data speeds.

I'm sure most people are on this kind of bandwagon regarding DL speeds.

THEY ARE MEANINGLESS.

The ISP puts up those fictitious numbers for marketing.

My Xfiniity cable boasts 25 down 5 up on speedtest.com.

I NEVER EXPERIENCE 25 DOWN OR 5 UP ON ANYTHING I DO ONLINE PERIOD.

The highest i've ever seen a torrent download was 1.8Mbs

The highest i've ever seen a file download from a website is 2Mbs.

Your cell phone is no exception.... 3G EVDO is good to 2Mbps. Your not getting anymore than this on 4G LTE 5G 6G XTE BZE DTE FEE!!!

It's marketing, wake up and smell the Bull .

When i upgrade my NS4G to the Galaxy Nexus, i'm upgrading the screen size, the resolution, and the processor speed. That is all.

3G on sprint is slow, hopefully network vision will make it slightly more tolerable.

Define what your doing that you consider 'slow'?

I use the web, internet apps, GPS navigation all the time without a skip. I have no 4G.

Is it because your webpages load in 5 seconds instead of instantly when you click the icon?

Sprints network bandwidth can explain most all of the usage within the browser, not Sprints Download speed capabilities....

For me on my epic it's fine for web browsing but it's slow for when I wanna download/stream music or apps. I mean if it bothered me enough I would have switched by now. Just wish it was more consistent in speed for downloads and streaming music. I do also wish the lte will be fast enough for Netflix etc.

just so you know, that's Mbits/sec not MBytes/s. 8 bits= 1 Byte.

So at 25 Mbps, the fastest that you would be able to downlad from a site/torrent would be about 3.13 MBps. of course thats not including overhead, congestion, etc.

just remember:

Mbps =/= MBps
8 bites = 1 Byte

i think 25 down is 25 megabits down. when you use torrent, i believe it's measured in megabytes. 8 megabits = 1 megabyte, if you can get 1.8 to 2 megabytes download per second, that's pretty fast. remember, torrent download also depends on the connection of ppl upload speed, so it usually won't use up all your bandwidth. according to this sprint speed sucks compared to the other carriers.

Survey finds AT&T fastest for 4G downloads, Verizon best for 4G uploads, Sprint's 4G slower than 3G | The Verge

for me, i would like to have lte, but i guess i can live without it. there's definately times where i wish i have faster speed when wimax wasn't avl. where i live, wimax coverage is very spotty. even when it's avl, the speed isn't that fast and it kills my battery. so i normally turn it off. for email, weather, twitter updates, it's more than enough for me. i do most of my podcast, or app downloads at home where it's connected to my wifi.

nevermind, i thought yuo were talking about comcast advertise speed. i see what you mean now. your test speed is 25 down. but yeah, still, torrent dl speeds depend on the other ppl upload speed, so not a good measure of your actual download speed.

News groups son. Fastest speeds EVER

In a side note my wimax has Bennett slower or equal to my 3g as of late. My 3g has been close clocking in at 28kbps....that SUUUUUUXKS

I just hate the fact all comparisons are by download and upload rates, not real world internet use.

Such a gimmick..

I don't care about Internet speeds and all that stuff. Heck, I've had every sprint phone.. The NS4G, OG Epic, and all Evos and currently the E4GT and all these phones have wimax capabilities and there's no wimax where I live.

The 3G data speeds are fine. I haven't had an issue with it what so ever. It always worked when I needed it to.

So for me, the lte is a non factor. I the way I look at it is I get it when I get it.

I'm getting the Galaxy Nexus for the pure Google/Official's ICS Experience. If I was getting it for the lte feature alone, then obviously I wouldn't get it.

3G is fine for me as I only need consistent slow bandwidth to do what I usually do (Location services, email, social networking)

The higher bandwidth of 4G is only useful to me for multimedia, y'know.. things that need more than the 30-100KB/s I get on 3G. Video, large images, or media consumption in general (also: trips away from home.)

edit: like the poster below, I use wifi at home and at the office, where I am at most of the time.

I don't see why this discussion would be related to NS4G owners and Galaxy Nexus owners. It's for current WiMAX and prospective LTE owners. Here's a more relevant thread. http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/166730-only-5-so-markets-lte-summer-worth.html

I am going to rely on wifi more now that I have service at home and am in college where wifi is all over. I want what the device offers and am less concerned with speed like I was in the past. Don't get me wrong, I will love lte when it gets here which I assume it will based on the fact that we have great 4g in my area.
