Hi
so I had seconds to grab a photo of a red squirrel a wee way away from me, I'll try 108 mega pixels I thought, Oh damn... no zoom, ok not to worry at this quality I'll be able to crop in quite a bit and still have a sharp photo.
How wrong could I be - absolute crap unusable shot :(
So what's it for? Just a headline hitting gimmick or does it achieve something in different circumstances.
Which also begs the question, why is the Note 20 Ultra so far down the DXO(?) camera testing/grading site..... or have I answered my own question?
Thanks for any thoughts in advance.

Not sure if it helps or if the picture would have been any better but you can pinch the screen in/out when taking a 108MP picture. Up to 6X zoom.

I'm under the understanding that it bins the 108 megapixels to a 16 megapixel shot. To use the 108 megapixel you have to change a setting or go to pro mode I think.

There is a setting at the top of the screen to select it - I used that rather than pro mode?

so far...from my personal experience...if the subject is still i use 108mp...other than that i use 16mp...

Following for tips. When the sun is on the backside of what I'm capturing it tends to make it really dark. I use the default auto photo mode with 16:9 mode. Using 3:4 with or without 108mp makes no difference in lighting.

When the sun is behind the subject why is ut so dark.

The laws of physics and how light works. The sun is behind the object so you are photographing a shadow, it's going to appear dark unless you crank the exposure and then the sun, sky, and other highlights will be blown out.

First pic is foggy
Could you post a 100% crop of the squirrel?
I have found that the Note-20 Ultra oversharpens the image, but working in Raw in a PITA. As for best results shoot with the 108 3:4 setting and then use the Advanced setting of the Photo Editor to re-size to 12 MP. Down res'ing gets rid of some of the more horrible artifacts. Personally I evaluate photos at 100% zoom. Doing this I find the best picts are using the OIS stabalized 5x camera followed by the resized 108MPx images.

I didn't find the 108 mode to be any great shakes either and just as you said, I thought the big advantage would be cropping but that did not seem to be always the case. it was still a good picture but I am wondering what I am getting for a 35 meg file size.
