Questions about android handsets

I'm currently in school right now and I'm working at radio shack and were going to start carrying tmobile and already carry ATT and sprint. Ive been thinking about swithing from verizon for awhile to get my employee disc. I've had blackberrys my whole life and just want to change even though i would recommend a blackberry to anyone. But i just want something new. So I have to buy my phone outright and I'm looking at a android device. There really pushing the mytouch which is pretty much like the magic right? I've heard the magic is actually faster is that true? Also should i wait for something better?
