Hello all,

MY COMMENT

First to introduce myself. I signed up with Sprint and purchased a Palm Pre in June 2009. It was my very first smart phone. I had a lot of fun with it but am ready to move on. And the HTC EVO 4G is in my sights!!! It even works out in my favor. I haven't been a customer with sprint for even a year and I got upgraded to Sprint Premiere status. So, I get my 150 dollars off come June. And I will be purchasing the HTC EVO 4G.

MY CURIOUSITIES

So like I said above, the Pre was my first smartphone and it kind of grew on me. But, I'm ready to move on. So i'm curious. How is the droid OS? Don't just give me fluff and talk it up. I'd like an honest opinion.

MY QUESTIONS

-Is it smooth?
-Laggy at times?
-Do you have to restart the phone a couple times a week?
-Do you have to manually enter contacts or can you sync with your google acct.?
-how is the touch sensitivity? are there a lot of sensors in the phone? Smooth scrolling, etc?
-Is the on screen keyboard hard to get used to?
-I read on this forum the battery isn't that great but is way better than the pre. That's okay with me considering I always thought the Pre had decent battery life.
-Are you able to use live backgrounds?
-Are you able to use custom backgrounds? if yes, when you scroll from screen to screen left or right does the background move like slightly in the direction where you are swiping the pages? (that make sense?)
-With the Pre we got frequent upgrades for WebOS. Is this the case with Android? When FroYo is officially released, will we get to upgrade the mobileOS?
and again, most importantly, is it smooth or is it laggy?

In your opinion, what's the best android mobile phone out there? The Incredible? Or will the 4G be better than the incredible?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to becoming part of the Android community.

Dude instead of posting all these questions and creating a new thread why don't you read the forum pages like all the rest of us for all your answers or do some research on the EVO 4G through google and you will get all your answers to your questions that have been answered numerous times already!

I found that a lot of this stuff can be answered from looking at youtube videos...thats where I got a lot of my information and it doesnt require you to read through a bunch of forum posts. my first droid will be an evo so i cant offer an opinion on how android OS's perform.

heres a pretty good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz7ii1KFEoM

I just made the switch from my Pre to the Evo (thanks to I/O) ... can't wait to get my phone number swapped. I'm speaking of the EVO, not Droid. Sense UI is a nice add by HTC.

Is it smooth? Yes. Much smoother than the Pre.
-Laggy at times? Only when I did my initial setup and it was synching FB, Twitter, an Exchange calendar, mail, contacts and Google calendar, gmail and contacts. Since then, no lag whatsoever. Quite refreshing!!

-Do you have to restart the phone a couple times a week? Haven't had to yet ... but haven't run a whole week. Don't expect to have to restart.

-Do you have to manually enter contacts or can you sync with your google acct.? Sync with google account. You're crazy if you don't. Since I'm connected to two sources of contacts (Exchange and Google), I found that I had to update my google contacts names in the format of Last, First. Now they match the format that Exchange contacts show up in.

-how is the touch sensitivity? are there a lot of sensors in the phone? Smooth scrolling, etc? Awesome. Have no clue how many sensors are in the phone. It does NOT stutter when scrolling. Very responsive to touch.

-Is the on screen keyboard hard to get used to? Yes. But how many millions of people have gotten used to using an on screen keyboard by now??

-I read on this forum the battery isn't that great but is way better than the pre. That's okay with me considering I always thought the Pre had decent battery life. - Battery life on EVO is much better than the Pre. Period.

-Are you able to use live backgrounds? Yes.

-Are you able to use custom backgrounds? if yes, when you scroll from screen to screen left or right does the background move like slightly in the direction where you are swiping the pages? (that make sense?) - Haven't tried it yet. Background appears to stay stationary. Sense adds a nice touch for tracking what page you are on (small dash that rolls across the 'phone' key at the bottom of the screen(s).

-With the Pre we got frequent upgrades for WebOS. Is this the case with Android? When FroYo is officially released, will we get to upgrade the mobileOS? - Don't know how frequent historically. This is my first Android device. My hunch is that updates will come less often. EVO users will get 2.2. The Pre needed them more frequently. From my initial reaction to Android ... it is much more mature and doesn't require them as frequently (although continual feature improvements are always welcomed).

and again, most importantly, is it smooth or is it laggy? Smooth as silk.

I haven't found anything I can't do (except AccuRadio .. but there are alteranatives) on the EVO that I could do on the Pre. I am a Pre homebrewer/preware patcher ... feel I know WebOS very, very well. I am really impressed with Android/Sense UI. I've even found some of the Apps for Android are BETTER than the same apps built for WebOS. Not to mention the difference in the number of apps available for the EVO vs. the Pre.

Obviously just my opinions but I can speak first hand about moving from Pre to Evo.

Hope it helps. Enjoy!
