Do i have to temp root before i do a permanent root? i am about to try and root my phone but even after reading the step by steps i still need help and this is probably just the start of a series of questions

oh okay thanks but when temp rooting where do you place the visionary.apk? do i place it in the root of my sd card and then find it in the astro back up app? cause i tried that and i couldn't find it

You can install visionary through the marketplace like any other app as well. But yes just use astro file manager to navegate to the apk and click on it to install

i can install it through the market? i tried looking for it but couldn't find it. and i tried navigating through the file manager and couldn't find it either. Am i suppose to put the file in a certain folder in the sd card? sorry for all the questions

Never apologize for asking questions that is what we are here for. I am traveling today so its going to be hard for me to answer questions sorry for the delay. the visionary file from the download is named com_modaco_visionaryplus_r14.apk so look for that file on your SD card. I will check back in between flights.

Ok that helps in file manager you need to scroll down a little farther till you see "SD Card" tap that to go in to the SD card. From the file names on your screen it looks like you are in the phone mail directory. Once you have opened the SD Card you should see the file visionary file.

oh okay i see it now. the first time i did it i look in the folder and saw nothing but now everything is there. i will continue with the rooting process and if i get stuck again i'll be back here with more questions lol

EDIT: It says it can not open. Am I suppose to keep the phone on charge only or take it off cause I tried both and nothing. I can post a picture again of what i'm getting

You know what brow I have never seen that I am trying to reproduce it but so far I haven't had any success. Try downloading the file again but this time use the phone internet explorer to go to the webpage and download that way you don't have to transfer the file maybe something is happening with your PC that is causing this. After you have downloaded the file it will be located in "SD Card">"download"

Ah alright I will try that out and see if it works. I'll be back later to give an update or more questions

Sorry for the double post I don't know if its against the rules or not. i'm trying to install the installer_r10-windows and it says I need Java SE development Kit which i installed or at least I thought I did but it still won't let me continue with the installer. I restarted my computer and everything. Do I need installer_r9 or is 10 fine? cause i can't find installer_r9 and I got the apk file to work. I had to redownload it root it back to the sd card and it worked
EDIT: Got the installer to work and here are pictures of what i'm doing
Picture 1- Me changing the File Path as it says in the Guide or so I think i'm correct in doing that(sorry quality is worse on these pictures. i was using my TP2 to take the pictures)

Picture 2- Me showing the next step after i click next

Picture 3- Just showing the next step yet again

Picture 4- After I click to open

Picture 5- Using Run and typed what the guide said. i have previously installed the platform tools in the sdk the very first time I had downloaded it but I had downloaded the zip file or rar can't remember which ( I don't know if that makes a difference)

PS: Thank you Big D5 for helping me out and being patience with me seeing as I don't know what I am doing and I am just learning about all this kind of stuff in college

No problem Brow looks like you are moving right along. I don't see a question here so did you get your Shift rooted?

when i do the run and type in the cd C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools i don't get "C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools>" after i click enter. i meant to put that in the post but forgot haha. Does that mean i did something wrong?

On your PC go to Start>My Computer>Local Drive C: do you see an Android SDK file there?

Try copying and pasting the commands from the tutorial directly in to the command prompt sometimes its hard to get the spaces in the rite place.

Hmm... Still nothing. I looked through the folder inside of the C: drive and i have a folder called platform which has nothing in it and as a folder called tools with stuff inside of it. Should I have stuff inside of the platform folder or am I missing a folder that i need?
