Is there any way to access contact favorites other than the widget? On the droid, I could go to contacts and the first listed were favorites. Can't seem to figure it out on the Incredible.

Easiest way to do it is hit phone and then look at the list above where you dial. If you scoll down a little your favorites will be first above the rest of your phone book but after the call log portion.

The fastest way to dial someone is to make a shortcut on the home screen to their direct dial. The second fastest is to make them a speed dial, and then to call them tap on "Phone" and then long press the number that they correspond to. Correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks, but that's all pretty obvious lol.
I was looking for a fast root to favorites (starred). To put shortcuts on home screens for all my favorites would take up too much room since I would need one for each primary number, one for each SMS, then one for each additional phone like home, work etc. It's just not practical, hence "favorites" which pops up all the numbers and options for that contact. That's the whole purpose of starred items.

We just released a speed dial widget, Sign, which is gesture-based. It allows you to Sign directly from the home screen and lets you assign single or multi-stroke gestures ("signs") to any contact, including different numbers for the same person. You can select whether you want to call or text, and we are adding a feature that lets you set the default for the app as either call or text which should be implemented within a week. The update won't allow you to have a different default for each contact/number, so you will still have to change to call or text some of the time, but you can minimize the times you have to do that - and its fast and easy to do.

From your description above, I think Sign would meet almost all of the features you list above, all within a single widget, and all from your homescreen.

There's more information here.

Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

So am I misunderstanding or do you have to memorize a unique gesture for every contact and a unique gesture for how you want to call them?

Pville, no you don't have multiple gestures for a single contact. You assign a gesture only for contacts you want to have as your speed dial numbers. So, you assign a gesture to a contact. Then, when you activate the gesture recognition, you choose call or text, and draw the gesture and that's it..

So you do have to remember the gestures for the "speed dial" contacts, but not multiple signs for whether you want to call them and a different sign if you want to text them. Currently, the default when you open the app and Sign is to call that contact. However, the upcoming update will allow the user to choose whether the default is to call or text. That should minimize the number of times they have to switch to the other action.

There is a free version in the market, Sign Lite. It is functionally the same as Sign, but it limits the number of contacts. Give it a try and let us know what you think. We're open to suggestions.
