Quick Charge 3.0?

I just received my SHARKK 3.0 wall charger as recommended in this thread. Unfortunately, my G5 presents the same symptom - it says "fast charging" for a couple of seconds and then reverts to standard charging. I tested with multiple USB C cords of acceptable quality, including the stock LG cord. We need some more results from G5 users and 3rd party 3.0 chargers. Maybe some are not affected by this issue? I tested with another G5 in a Verizon store, and it also presented the same issue.

That definitely isn't a good thing, both myself and my girlfriend have the G5 and we use the same exact chargers and she also doesn't have the issues you're talking about either. You say you've tried the chargers at the Verizon store and their phones did the same thing? Dare I say that maybe Verizon did something with ability to uses quick charge 3.0? Maybe try to use the chargers at a different carriers store? I can confirm that with tmobile my phone will say quick charging with the stock charger, Samsungs adaptive chargers and with my aftermarket chargers, aftermarket being incredibly fast.

That's a great idea. I'll plan to swing by another carrier and try it. The problem seems to be with chargers that have the 3.0 capability. If I use a 2.0 charger, like an OEM Samsung Fast Charger, it works just fine. But something with 3.0 chargers, which should work, is freaking it out. It's like the charger is detecting the 3.0 signal from the Qualcomm chip, but it isn't communicating properly with the phone regarding what kind of charging load to send.

Thank you, jrham. You have really helped get to the crux of this issue. I went to a T-Mobile store and tested their G5 with my AUKEY 3.0 car charger. Their phone displayed "Fast Charging" the entire time it was charging, and clearly charged quickly. When unplugged and plugged into my Verizon G5, it presented the symptom of displaying "Fast Charging" for a few seconds and then only "Charging" while clearly charging slowly. This confirms that the chargers I mentioned in this thread are probably just fine, and that this issue plagues all Verizon LG G5 handsets. I hope this will be resolved quickly with a system update.

Wow, this is crazy. My Verizon G5 also does this. I wonder if it was something intentional, but then, why?

WOW! I really hope that wasn't intentionally done by Verizon but I wouldn't put it past them. I guess if you have to look at a bright side of things QC 2.0 isn't terrible btw I'm glad I could help.

Wow! Nice investigative work. Explains why I couldn't recreate the symptoms on my T-Mo phone.

Yeah.... I wonder why Verizon would be different.

Verizon does not even show the USB-C fast charge on the webpage anymore. Vanished. Maybe its being updated or replaced with 3.0.

I spoke with Verizon about the issue about 4 days ago. They told me that they didn't see Quick Charge 3.0 in the phone's specs, only 2.0. I provided them with links from the QUALCOMM site and others stating Quick Charge 3.0 as a basic feature of the G5. They said they would escalate the issue and get back to me... hasn't happened yet. Again I say, this is really annoying because the 3.0 chargers I bought won't even deliver a 2.0 charge.

I have a european edition of the phone and bought a couple 3.0 chargers and 6ft long usb c cables. One batch of cables I felt was quite poor and didn't use as it fit loosely in the port. The other batch fit nicely. (Seems to be quality problems or problems of standards with usb c cables so you may have to be very proactive with the choices you make). Anyways quick charge 3 seems to be working fine for me. My phone goes from 20-30% to 100 in about an hour or so. I am actually impressed with that. The battery life is very underrated as well despite having a smaller battery than the samsung s7 for example. The phone lasts much longer than my htc m8 did with much more use out of it.

I will get tronsmart 3.0
When i received it i will write review

What wireless carrier is your G5 labeled under? So far, users in this thread have reported that G5's released in the U.S. by T-Mobile and AT&T are operating as expected with respect to Quick Charge 3.0 operation & compatibility. G5's by Verizon are the only phones affected to date. I'm hoping to hear 3.0 compatibliby & operating reports from other Verizon users.
