Quick Connect - battery drain

Still seeing this issue every few days. The battery drain is massive. My phone physically heats up from it. I contacted Samsung Support and they had me clear the cache partition. Admittedly I hadn't tried this before, so we'll see how it goes.

This issue just popped up on my daughters' phone last night. Quick connect was taking up 69% of battery! Even though it's not even on, I have to keep stopping it from running. Now, although it doesn't show Quick Connect in battery usage, it's 53% Android system, which shows quick connect as part of that. I tried clearing the cache partition just now and it didn't work. SO frustrating! Battery life has been amazing before this nonsense!
I also noticed that all the useless programs that I've stopped from running just start running again! WTF already??!

Install this app and you can determine if Quick Connect is actually causing your problems.

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tails?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor&token=V0eAPdBb

If you want to disable it, goto
Settings/Apps/Apps Mgr/ALL

that is a big list as it shows every process on the phone.
Find Quick Connect and turn if OFF.

It is safe to do so, if you find you want it back, just slide the screen over to "Turned OFF" and turn it back ON.

You might possibly want to Restart the phone after doing that because it is part of the OS.

Thank you. I have turned it off a million times it seems like. I've powered down the phone each time and every time I powered back up, everything is just back on. Next I will try that app you suggested. Right now I just want to slam the phone into the wall.
Thanks for your help and I will follow up with updates

This problem is kinda of disheartening. I was thinking about getting an S5 from iPhone and battery life was a factor in my consideration. Wonder if this is a wide spread issue with a recent update?

I have the latest update and do not have this bug on my phone.

I would NOT get too overly concerned about the battery life on the S5.
Forums exist because a few folks do have a problem and need to find a fix for it.
We will read about those folks....

But, the preponderance of folks who do not have any issues at all won't be posting about their "great battery life".

My S5 during the first week that I was using it and prior even to registering it with Verizon, was a horrible battery hog.

I tracked down the problems while using it on WiFi only, reading the forums, and getting rid of the Bloatware.

In my case, one app was the worst.... Amazon Suites and all the Amazon ilk. I just deleted/turned OFF every thing that was not needed to make the phone perform correctly.

that solved my battery problems.

Today, I took my S5 off the Qi charger pad about 5 hours ago. made a couple of calls to find stuff in town, did our shopping and used the camera a lot.... landscaping supplies, etc..... rocks for the decor, etc... got to show the wife what it all looks like... she is in a wheelchair and getting around good is not her forte.

5 hours use and 93% is not bad IMO...

I have turned off the following on a Verizon phone:
Accessories, Amazon, Amazon App suite, Amazon Kindle, Amazon MP3, Appstore, Audible, BlurbCheckout, Bubbles, FamilyBase Companion, Flipboard, Message+, Messages, MyMagazine, NFL Mobile, Picasa Uploader, S Health, Smart Remote, Travel Wallpaper, Verizon Support & Protection (McAfee), VZ Navigator (pay for fee Navigation.... Google maps is free)

Google branded that I turned
OFF:

Calendar Sync, Contacts Sync, Play Games, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Newstand, Hangouts, Isis Mobile Wallet

I had the quick connect battery drain a couple days ago. My phone drained pretty fast, when I looked at my battery usage it said quick connect used 40%. I'm on ATT and the phone is totally updated. Anyone else still having this problem, is there any definitive fix yet?

Thanks for teaching that general trick. Unfortunately, I don't think it "stops" quick connect from running, it was running after my reboot after clearing the cache partition. I suspect the glitch has to do with turning on and of WiFi and/or bluetooth, because it seems to pop up and drain battery when I play with these switches; somewhere there is some programming glitch. The good news is there was an update for this Samsung app, hopefully it addressed the issue. I tend to trust Google's counterpart apps to Samsung's irremovable bloatware apps, but hey, the phone is pretty awesome.

The option to "Turn Off" Quick Connect is grayed out in my applications manager for both Quick Connect and Quick Connect Interactions Services. I've uninstalled all updates, repeatedly forced stop the process, and tried the cache partition in the recovery boot.

Any ideas on how to make the option to "turn off" this process available?

Agree that Samsung support is trash, but don't give up on the product, since my post, I have noticed significantly better battery life. This is what I did:
-Disabled quick connect
-Disabled hangouts, print services and any carrier services (in my case, any T-Mobile service or bloatware)
-turned power saving mode on to only restrict performance (cpu performance and screen output)
-turn off all air gestures
-turned off all moron gestures except for swipe screen capture
-disable S voice on double pressing the home button
-the only notification icons turned on are wifi (when available), screen rotation and sync
-use a dark wallpaper for both home screen and lock screen
-keep the screen brightness down when you can (mine is usually always lower than 25% except for when I'm outdoors or watching a YouTube video.)
-lastly, close out of any programs that you're not using for a while

Hope this helps out a bit...

I started this past Saturday at 9am with 100%, used the phone's gps all day when driving, used the camera while at a wedding, made calls and sent texts, got back home around 10pm and still had over 30% battery left.

I lost you at the first step! How do you "Disable" quick connect? I don't see that as an option when I go into the Settings < Applications... Though I did just open Quick Connect (by enabling it on the dropdown menu) and it told me there's an update (AT&T). Maybe this will help the problem.

Looks like the reviews on this app are HORRIBLE. Everyone rates 1 star and says something about battery drain haha.

From the dropdown menu I toggled "Always ready to connect" to "OFF." Funny, it says leaving the option on does not increase battery consumption... I did notice that my phone screen was on a lot during the time period when the battery drained. I was using the phone heavily, but not enough to warrant the drain (and 100F temperature) that I experienced.

.

goto Settings/apps/app mgr/all/quick connect

open it and turn it OFF/Disable/Uninstall

it will disappear from your screens and not bother you anymore.

I did it by going to settings > application manager > find quick connect and disable from there.... Now it never shows up on my notifications bar, that's how you know it's off. I also always turn down my screen brightness when I'm indoors. Believe it or not if you have a very vibrant or colorful background on your backdrop or lock screen, that sucks up power. For my lock screen I just have an all black background. Hope this helps.

Ever since I activated the quick connect service, the WiFi toggles itself on even after I turn it off and turn the data on. Cannot stop quick connect through settings. I cleared the partition cache but that didn't fix it. I think it has something to do with quick connect. I disabled it through settings >app manager>all. It turns itself back on. Any suggestions?

The previous comments suggest that they cannot perform your 'step one'. When quick connect is disabled, it turns back on Within a minute.

After performing all steps that I originally posted, my battery now pretty much lasts all day with moderate usage. Quick connect doesn't even show up in my battery usage chart, where now android system uses 33%, Android OS uses 15%, and the screen also uses 15%. I also constantly make sure I close completely out of programs that I'm done using.

I'm experiencing the same problem, my A5 has no option 'always ready to connect', so I can't turn it off.Can you advice on how to get rid of it? I tapped the only available button 'Stop', but it is still running.
