Quick question about the box my SIII came in

i had recently got my SIII about a month after its release. On my box there is a sticker that says "updated". Any ideas on what that means?

Probably that it is already updated to LG2 which was the firmware that was release a few days after the device was publicly released.

To check, open About device in the Settings menu (scroll all the way to the bottom) and the Baseband version should read L710VPLG8, and Build number IMM76D.L710VPALG8. Those are the latest. If either ends in LG2, you should be getting the latest update soon.

Somewhat related I was wondering if there are any additional Hardware versions for the Sprint variant. On mine I see L710.14. Curious if there is anything different out there or not. I know the S2 had multiple variants.

the first time i booted up the phone when i got it it gave me the LG8 update. my brothers SIII, which he got the day it had come out did not get the update till i had to clear the google framework data. so i was just wondering what the updated sticker meant

I think the LG8 was what the updated sticker meant. It was, and still is, being released gradually. So people who have had their phones for a while had to wait on the update, while those like you who're just getting them have the update ready to go on their phones. It seems that New Yorkers are still waiting for the update.

I think it is updated from Android 4.0 to 4.0.1.

The very first gs3 shipped from the factory with Android 4.0.4. There has been several small updates. LEN, LF9, LG2 & LG8. Phones from Sprint are commonly updated prior to delivery. The sticker shows the box was opened to apply the update.
