Quickest cheapest phone

Both the wife and I use Project Fi. I have a 6P and she was using my Nexus 6 until she dropped it for the 43rd time. What is the quickest cheapest way to get a replacement? I assume I can only find a Pixel in store at this point? She's not a power user so I'm not willing to spend $600+ on a Pixel for her so it's really either another 6 or a 5X. Will I be able to get insurance on a 6 or 5X?

I would go for the 5X. It should be supported for a little while longer. However, you are correct that only the Pixel is in the Play store right now. I can imagine you can find a 5X at Amazon. Insurance would be covered by a third party, like Asurion.

I'd buy a new 5X or 6P directly from Project Fi. They have the Black 5X, 32GB, for $249 and you can add Fi Protect. They have the 6P in Aluminum or Graphite, 32 GB for $399 or 64GB for $449, and again you can buy them with Fi Protect. To find where to buy the phones, go to your Fi account page, select "Manage Plan," and then select "Buy New Device."

If you don't mind paying the extra, the 6P is worth the extra money (at least in my opinion).

You can still get a Nexus 5x or a Nexus 6P through the Fi store. The 5x starts at $200 for the 16GB model.

It could take weeks to get a phone from Project Fi. She'll have killed someone by then and I'm the closest.

I'm not sure why it would take weeks to get a phone from Project Fi. For a 5X or 6P, which should be ready to ship, they should get it out within a day or so; then it is just a matter of how much you are willing to pay for shipping (if you are willing to pay for next day air, second day air, or just want the free shipping).

Shoot, I looked again, the only 5x they have in stock is the white 32 GB, for $249.

Just saw new Nexus 6's on fleabay for < $260, have heard of "like new" Nexus 6's being exchanged for damaged ones at Moto < $200...
Realize it's an old phone.
Still, a reasonable choice with security updates for another year.
BTW: Nexus 5X running 7.1.1 is plenty smooth.
Good Luck

If you dont mind staying connected to T-Mobile, try the ZTE axon 7 mini or axon7. Ive got both on fi, and they're wonderful.

The purpose of the thread was a new Project Fi phone. I found a Nexus 6 on Amazon that would arrive same day.

Glad to hear it. For the record, my 5X got delivered in 2 days from Google. But, that was in October. Not sure how they are doing now. Fi has been great for me.

Are you saying that you get actual phone service on that model? Just on TM, though? Thanks for the tip! I am in the same predicament as the original poster, but I see more value in your answer than that person did. There is a used ZTE phone locally available while I wait 3 weeks for fi to send me a Moto. After my wife gets her new phone, I'll use the ZTE for a phone for my youngsters. Thanks, again.
