'QuickShot' Feature... Why? Would you use it?

Reality check for anyone tempted to believe...

300k miles / (365*24) = 34 mph without breaks for food, sleep, or any other necessary function.

"Local traffic" implies town/city traffic with speed limits >= 35mph and real averages probably no better than 20-25. Anyone who claims to drive continuously, 24*7 is either deluded or a liar.

Taxi driver, and trust me with 12 hour shifts it's close if not fully accurate. Oh, and when I do airport trips, yeah I do a bit more than 35 on the highway.

My point was, regardless of any local or city laws in your state, drive responsible.

It's nice to have the ability to quickly open the camera, but actually taking a photo automatically is odd, luckily that part can be disabled and still be able to open the camera

That's would be how I would use that feature.

If it didn't have an option to disable automatically taking a picture. I wouldn't use that feature

Perhaps he had a typo and it was just supposed to say "300km per year". ;-)

But let's take a further look into this. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he only drives 6 days a week. So that means only 313 days a year. Obviously he cannot drive 24 hours a day, so let's assume only 12 hours a day. So then it becomes:

300,000/313 = 958 miles a day

958 / 12 = 79.87mph.

I think all this means that his speeding habit and obviously tired driving is WAY more dangerous than running a yellow light here and there.

Mod note: Everyone, please, try to stay on topic.

G3 had the shortcut (didn't automatically take a pic though).... It was useful, but I wouldn't call it a make or break feature. I mean, on the Gs, if you have a hand on those back buttons, you are right, it is an awkward position to be taking pictures from (as opposed to a phone with buttons on the side).

I ended up modifying the shortcuts to launch different apps... torch and google keep (quick notes).

I think in fact this is going to be very useful to me. There are plenty of occasions when I find myself wanting to fire up Camera quickly.
I suspect it will be a tad faster than my beloved Nokia Lumia 1020. :)

We do have people from Florida, they might get crocodiles every day :P

In Florida the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) is very rare. They have a narrower snout than the more common American alligator.
If anyone does see an American crocodile please take a photo with your G4. And QuickShot would come in handy!

Down the road from my parents (about 2 minutes) is the St. Johns River. Around them are tons of houses but .. back there is a restaurant that people don't know about unless you're local called "Clark's Fish Camp" (it is built on a dock -- they even have a boat ramp so you can eat and load your boat and go!) but.....

They recently had to re-do the bathrooms due to gators getting in the bathroom all the time and customers finding out once they walked in lol.

I agree that the feature doesn't seem like it's terribly useful in practice. I've also heard that it tries to take the picture too quickly and shots are out of focus.

Fast launching the camera is a great idea, but immediately snapping a photo of what you can't even see on the screen is odd. Would be something that I'll disable, however will definitely keep the quick launch though. Very useful feature.

If you saw a crime happen you couldn't aim your phone straight enough to capture the subject somewhere in the frame without looking at the screen?

Time will tell.

I wonder if you can preconfigure it to zoom a bit or some settings.

I already found a use for that feature once, when I was in the backseat of a driving car and saw something I wanted to take a shot of, but didn't even try, because until the G2 would fire up the camera, the subject would have gone already.

You could launch the camera/use quickshot without entering your password/code (if you have one) right?

Just tested this and yes you can. It came up with in 1 second. You cannot view any pictures you take though. A lock is inside the circle where the gallery preview would be normally. When you click that it takes you to the lock screen. Enter your knock code or whatever you have set and it will take you straight to the photo you took last.

Aside from that hypothetical being extremely unlikely that it's borderline ridiculous, the problem is that the phone tries to take the photo too quickly and images end up being blurry anyway. On top of that, if a crime were taking place, I'd put it on video record, not just try my luck with one image that I didn't even get to see if it would be taken in focus.

Quick launch is a good idea. Quick launch and immediate caputre isn't such a great idea. I'd rather wait that fraction of a second to get the image in focus then snap the shot.

Yup...Thats why I would just use the quick launch to open the camera. Then manually taking the picture. :)
