R.I.P. Mr. Galaxy, III

Seems like you are taking a nonchalant approach to this situation as if it took members posting for you to take action, before you even considered sending an email? Had that been the normal person, they would have probably beat dude butt on the spot and issued an ultimatum....Maybe I'm the only 1 that is looking at this from my perspective, but your thread appears like an invitation to your SG3 funeral instead of a thread on how you took physical and legal action against this person......*Shrugs*

I was pretty mad yesterday when I was talking with my buddy about it and trying to get this guy's email address. I was going to send and email anyway and demand some money for the phone. I could have been clearer about this situation, but yes I am demanding that he repay for it and all that.

When it happened I was in shock, but I think he knew the gravity of the situation. I'm pretty sure that he has a SGSIII as well so he knows what a kick ass phone this is. I wasn't going to go ballistic at the hotel pool party. I just tried to play it off because I would have to spend the rest of the afternoon with my buddy and his friends... including this assclown. The way that we left it was that he was going to have to pay to replace it. The other kicker is that my $400 wallet was in my pocket as well so that sucks to... being out more than $1000 for a stupid prank.

I sent him a email this morning and he asked if I had insurance (I don't). He also thinks that I said something about having him only pay for half of it (I did not say that). If anything he owes me 100% for the wallet, phone, and 30 buck activation. I'll let you know how it gets resolved.

This thread is more of a sad tale. I was going to go after this guy anyway but all your encouragement is showing me more and more that I am doing the right thing by demanding a new device.

I'm very disappointed to report that my SGSIII has drowned over the weekend. I got shoved in a swimming pool with my wallet and phone still in my pockets.

The phone currently sits in a bag of rice at home. Fingers crossed that mother-effer turns on when I arrive home this evening. This is a sad day for everyone.

Did you kick the phanny of the dude that shoved you in the pool?

Yeah I would have VERY upset to say the least. When Im around friends at the pool we all know that if you want to throw someone in you have a bunch or ppl grab them, then take off their shoes, remove wallet, keys and phone then throw into pool.

They learned the hard way having to pay for my GTI key to effect of $350. Luckily I had left my phone/wallet in the plastic bag with everyone else's...

One time, my mom washed my LG Dare in the washing machine... Haha... I didn't really care though. It sucked anyway, and i just got a new one for $50.

But this is a whole lot different. This phone is brand new and expensive (Without subsidized price)... I can imagine how awkward it is to try to get money from a friend of a friend. If the guy doesn't wanna pay you full price, try to get your friend to talk with him. This is screwed up. Good luck!

Wow. Not that it matters, but I am really trying to understand the situation / presence of mind. This person you really dont know just out of nowhere thinks "what the heck, im gonna shove a stranger into a swimming pool"? Kinda sounds like assault to me. You absolutely need to demand recompense.

However - what I find more amazing...is that you have a wallet that cost you $400.00!! What is it made of? Unicorn hide??

Back in the when not a lot of people had cell phones I would see this as a funny joke. I've pushed friends in pools before but I knew them. In present times, damned near everyone has a cell phone and they colst a lot of money. Never would I think to push anyone (meaning a friend) in a pool unless I knew they just got out and didn't have their cell phone on them. Behavior that the random guy displayed is just unacceptable.

I hope this works out for you in the end and he pays for his mistake.

yeah, isn't smart these days with the cost of replacing smartphones and keyless entry fobs. That can get rather expensive in no time.

I was thrown in a pool several years ago, but my friends had the smarts to ask my wife to ask for my phone. She played it off like she had to make a call to a friend. I was happy they asked and not just acted stupid.

If the guy doesn't want to pay up, I would threaten him with small claims court.

Man, that really sucks. I would make him get me a new one also.

Back to the tbolt for now i guess?

Sucks! The longer you let this go without a resolution the more likely things could get ugly. He is already making statements like "I thought I would only have to pay half". Tell him you need compensation pronto or else "small claims" court.

To be fair, this guy screwed up. He should make your phone new and after your wallet dries make it new if need be. Nothing more, if he activates a new phone at a reduced price, its still his contact to carry. Give him a chance to come around and if he is truly a jerk hammer him in small claims court. If he makes a good faith effort to make good then I say pick your battles and make the best resolution you can.

Thanks for all the kind wishes you guys. I'm still a bit in shock over it. :'( At least the responses from all of you are cheering me up a bit!

I am definitely going to be sending this guy an email that all but demands that he pay me for a new phone. It's tough because he is a friend of a friend so it makes it even more awkward for me to contact him.

Even if the phone does turn on the water damage stickers are going to be voided, so if I have any issues down the road there is going to be no warranty. I'm giving my phone a full 48 hours in the bag of rice so when I get home tonight it's going be the moment of truth. I was so excited to get this device and I just rooted it and it was all going so smoothly just a very very frustrating weekend.

damn man! i remember one time my girl friend was pretending to though me into the pool and i freaked out on her big time because i had my phone on me as well! we ended up breaking up...i guess i loved my phone more.
but im sorry to hear about your s3. he will push through everything!

on a side note though wouldnt verizon cover it with the Total Equipment Coverage that they have. ive returned my s3 4 times with only one problem from them. (all crazy battery issues)

Hey guys, I know that this really sucks having your phone get damaged, but I recently reviewed the XO Skins Aqua Dry Bag and it saved a phone that I had go through the washing machine. If you want to read the review it is here. They are cheap and they really work, so you might want to have one around just in case.

How would you know in advance when an idiot friend of a friend was going to push you into a pool? ;)

Hahaha you don't! :D But that's like saying "I didn't know I was going to need the first-aid kit after you need one."

After they sent me the bag I was wondering how in the heck I was supposed to review it. I wasn't about to dunk my phone to test it out. Lucky we have a 17 year old teenager in the house, he washed his phone like 4 days after it came in the mail.

It is just one of those things that you hope you never have to use, but are so happy when you have one. I have another one that I ordered and it's next to the first-aid kit in the bathroom.

For those "Texting while peeing incidents."
