So, I preordered it the day after it became available; a grey one. I purchased it in-store, and asked a ton of questions regarding warranties, availability, and my rights insofar as the possibility of backing out of the whole thing. The answers were that a)My device was fully covered by Radio Shack for 30 days b)I could order the grey c)That I was entitled to a full refund, including the $50 gift card.
I went in today, and it came - the white one came in. I was then informed that the grey wasn't available at Radio Shack. I showed her on my phone that the opposite was true, she confirmed so on her computer, and a call to her DM informed both of us that the RS website was a third party vendor to the stores, and that furthermore the grey was only obtainable through them. Oh, and I couldn't use the $50 through them either. Coupled with the fact that they wouldn't refund me for the phone if they saw so much as a scratch on that white phone, and that they wouldn't refund me the $50, I backed out. Plus, they couldn't transfer my grandfathered plan, and to add insult to injury, had rendered my SIM unusable during the almost-upgrade process. So, I left RS One X- less, no SIM, a hobbled data plan, and $50 poorer.
Thankfully, AT&T was able to reissue the SIM after two tries, and I should be able to correct my data plan, but damn! Hopefully going through AT&T directly will resolve everything... after the requisite 3-5 day waiting period to clear RS upgrade hold from having processed my order. Radio Shack has officially lost me as a customer.
