So, I've been rooted for a while, tried a ton of roms and kernels. One thing I've never done is mess with the radio. Before rooting while I was reading and learning about Android, I came across an article that said you could never brick the phone as long as you didn't mess with the radio.

I think I might be ready to mess with the radio, as long as there is a reason to. What can I gain out of it? I have radio 2.15.00.07.28. I've been seeing in some signatures a radio of 2.15.00.09......

How do I know when new radios are out? Do they improve signal, or battery life, or is it just something else to change out? With the risk of bricking the phone, I want to make sure it is beneficial before I think about it.

I read that thread before and that's what got me interested in playing with the radio. What are the drawbacks to doing this? Someone posted that in their worst signal areas, it got even worse. That's kinda where I was hoping to improve my signal

Ok, so I'm running virtuous and there is an option to reboot and hboot is one of the choices. Is this what I want for loading the radio? If I don't like it, is switching back just as easy as switching ROMs/Kernels?

Also, if I backup before hand and have to revert to the backup down the road, is the radio part of the backup or just Rom/Kernel?

No radio doesn't backup. And its better to turn of the phone then press vol down and power button untill you get to hboot then press vol up to upgrade

Ok thanks. I might be doing this tonight. After the holiday break, somehow my signal at work is non existent for 3G so I'm losing 75% battery throughout the day as the phone is constantly trying to sync. I'm back to the stone ages using gmail and gvoice through my laptop

Is easy to switch back if I don't see any improvement or signal gets worse?

Thanks for the Hboot help. I'll take any help I can get as if I brick it, I'm screwed......until the thunderbolt is released

Untrue. You can flash any radio as many times as you like as long as it is the full .img.



The dinc_ota that was floating around in the early days of the Incredible was what you could not flash twice. The reason for that is that it was just a crappy patcher file and not the whole .img.

Ok, so I downloaded the file. On my macbook, it automatically opens the zip to a folder. I have to compress it back to a zip file. So I did that, powered on into hboot. Pressed the vol up and nothing happened. I was kinda nervous so I just rebooted the phone.

Since I've read many cautions about not updating the same file twice, I went to XDA and tried the 2.15 9 radio. I renamed it (their download gives it the 9 name) and this time in hboot, it read the files but didn't load. The messages that flashed up were so fast I couldn't read them.

So now I'm not sure what to do. In hboot it still tells me I have the 2.15.....7.28 radio. It also tells me it IS S-off. I thought maybe I was wrong on the s-off thing, as I never did unrevoked forever.

On another note, whether this is related or not I tried to update the kernel to the ziggy one from the other thread. That did not load either. under about phone it still says I'm running the V3 kernel from rmk.

I've changed kernels lots of times, without problems. Not sure why that isn't loading either.

Always download small files like this with your phone dont use ur pc or mac. Its much better. When you download them using your phone they will be in your sdcard/download folder.

On XDA they chide people who download with the phone. I believe it was an image error. It popped up and dissappeared so fast I can't be sure. I would try downloading it here, but I barely get a 3g signal. Cinderblock walls suck.

I'm thinking I might not try. I would love any benefits but if I F it up I'm stuck without a phone. I do NOT want to have to revert to my blackberry for another year until my upgrade is due again.

So, I'm ready to rip my f'n hair out.

I downloaded the file (from your post). Booted up Hboot. Updated just fine. Asked me to reboot, I pushed up arrow for yes, phone shut off, rebooted as normal. I went into about phone and I'm still seeing the old baseband version.

It's like a dream when you do something, and then wake up thinking it's done, and you can't figure wtf is going on, whether it's dream or real.

Gonna start with kernels again and when I can get something I try to change to ACTUALLY change, maybe then I'll feel comfortable trying the radio again.

Also make sure you don't have another PB file on your sd card
