Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I have searched all over for persons with similar experiences. Several days ago, my LGV10 started randomly playing pieces of a tune. Sometimes this would last a few seconds, sometimes as long as twenty seconds. Then it started playing a recording (not one I ever made) of a man's voice saying "Cios play a critical role in keeping a company competitive" - - sometimes playing half a second, sometimes a few seconds, the whole phrase, and then, suddenly, several more sentences of the diatribe.

Between these events, I, like all of you, uninstalled app after app. I downloaded an ran virus scanners and cleaners. I went through every app removing permissions. But nothing worked. Then I decided to give up for the night, and put my phone down. Our restless (what other kind is there) border collie came through several times, tormenting one of the cats. I bellowed "Libby! That's quite enough. Go to bed!". Then my phone piped up "Hello?", with a response from the other party "Oh hi! This is so-and-so from..."

It was MY voice, answering the phone.

I was really freaked out. I have no phone call recording apps. I've never recorded a phone call. I recognized the short snippet that played as a return call from a local heating and cooling firm I'd arranged an appointment with a week previous.

I don't know WTF is going on. I reset the phone to factory defaults, and lost a lot of stuff. The idea that my phone calls are being recorded and possibly uploaded to who knows is unsettling. I've heard some political spying involved just this sort of scenario, where apps were somehow given use of the microphone by the user, which is possible. I'm about as far from a conspiracy theorist as one can get, but I suppose I can see now how some people can get freaked out because they don't understand something and grasp at straws.

However, I'd sure like to know WTF is going on.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I've done all of the things listed, I've even done a factory reset, but its still happening. I'm on a ZTE Z970, but ads are still playing. Please help.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

happened on my note 8. I think it was the weather underground app. I uninstalled it and no prob since. add was for google. hope this helps!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

TLDR: Try Disabling 'Google Play Movies & T.V. ' if it's on your system.

I have a new Blu Vivo 8 phone, and the audio adds would seem to play after a period of innactivity. I couldn't see any apps firing off when it happened, so in frustration I went to app settings and disabled anything that looked like it could be sending a feed. Lucky for me, the adds stopped. Then After a period of innactivity, I'd get a notification that 'Google Play Movies & T.V. ' failed to launch (or something like that). So I believe it to be the culprit in my case.

I haven't heard the adds since, but still get the notification (which I'll see if I can nuke, but for now I like the confirmation that it stopped it). I can't find anywhere to delete the app itself (is it a system app or something? I didn't install it - it was on the phone when it came).

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

hi all
i now have this problem on my LG-D855 lollipop5. suddenly started happening. not sure what app is causing this. sky sports add now showing. free photos ad with sound activated when used 'my device' app to get above info. don't know how to check what is running at moment. really fed up. how do you know when apps downloaded date alongside app is version date? bursting into loud sound is nearest thing to me throwing it in bin. advice would be helpful. all previous advice does not appear to relate to my version of this problem.

My wife had some issues very similar to this on her phone. I never did figure out for sure what the app was, because I was uninstalling so many apps to try to fix it. I finally decided to do a factory reset on her phone, but in the process of backing things up and/or trying one more thing (an app to show hidden apps), I found that there was a hidden app called "Alphabet Stickers For Doodle Text" that was hidden. I may have seen it on a backup program too. And there might have been another app that had a similar sounding name. I should have tried removing the app, but I needed to get the phone clean again. I didn't want to have to uninstall those hidden files, and wait for a while (several hours) to see if it would make weird sounds or start talking again. So the factory reset did it for me, and I reinstalled apps that I thought were good after the reset. I think the problem is gone now.

Get one of those "hidden app" finding apps on Play Store. Of course this app you might have to be careful of too. Make sure you have good backup of all your stuff and settings too. The hidden apps won't appear to be running. I was trying to install Super Backup and couldn't get the permissions correct, because it was saying there was an overlay, even after I unchecked every app, including all system apps. That was because this app was hidden I believe (and not a system app).

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

This same d*mn thing started on my V20...I couldn't ID the source - both baffling and frustrating.
The "funny thing" was my Battery Life App (Kaspersky) showed FB was always running in the background - maybe it does anyway - the point is I deleted/uninstalled then reinstalled my FB App and the random ads stopped...
I hope this helps someone - it's worth a try. :-)

Wow, this thread is growing. I have had this going on for about a week now. I have done the same. Remove recent apps (FB, etc. I don't have the others listed), or wipe the phone. The ads are still playing, sometimes with only a .5 second "chirp" of an ad, often followed by a full 30 second bit later. The App widget shows nothing running...and all my pages are closed. Still it runs. What's worse, my battery is now draining so fast now, my QC 2.0 acts like a slow (basic) charger. When a wipe, and malware finders won't work, what else is there? If iPh*ne fans find out about this, they will have a field day with it....lol. I hope there isn't malware that wrote itself into my phone's ROM :-/

UPDATE: If you have "Fast Reboot" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.fastrebootpro (I got the pro version on sale)
which is a non root app that tries to stop and restart as much as it can, it actually stopped the audio. The cool thing is that it gives you a list of what it did. Maybe this will help narrowing down what was playing the audio. not much, but at least it's something...

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

My Verizon Droid phone also suffered from this and the only way to stop it was to put it in Airplane Mode. I could not yet identify an app that was causing this, but I am looking into the history. What's scary is that now I received a blackmail email about my phone being hacked.

AndroidCentral doesn't let me post any part of the message saying it is spam. The email correctly listed the last two digits of my phone and said they setup a malware on my phone recording me watching videos. They claim they have all my contacts, etc. Then asked for a ransom and gives 48 hours to prevent sending the video to my contacts.

There was no pixel and no proof of anything. I assume it's a bluff, but quite disconcerting. Especially after reading the post above on the top of the 2nd page:

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

This will sound bizarre but it could be a haunting. I've had my phone display ads all by its self which was really odd, I tried everything I could've thought of and still the same thing happens at random times, download a expel negativity app on your phone or do a little research on how to expel negative energies, perform a few rituals and notice the difference, it worked for me, still happens rarely but not as bad as before

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

That's a new approach.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I had this same problem, but my phone was playing weird child-like music randomly. Turns out it was due to an app that's actually supposed to stop aware/malware and viruses called MAX Security. It instantly stopped once I cleared the data for the app and uninstalled it.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Anyone find a cure for this? My S8 Active started playing a childrens tune on its own at 6am this morning. Nothing in the pull down menu that would allow me to stop it. I had to turn the volume off. Very strange

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

So I am wondering if this is from a bad ad injection because we have been seeing this on iPads as well. The only fix we found was to wipe all browsing history and reset network connections. I suspected it was a specific online game site but after we blocked it on our network the issue returned again this week. Interesting that I have been only searching this as an iPad issue but here it is on this forum as well.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

Just call Samsung Customer Support. I called them and the problem seems to be fixed at least for now. If not, this is what they did: The cleared the cashe in the Google Chrome, Google, and Messenger Apps and then Disabled them. This will delete the search history and all that but it shouldn't be bad at all if you have used your email on other devices for searching. If this doesn't work then you SHOULD give them a call and they will resolve it. Hope this helps!!! It saved me the stress haha.

Re: Random audio files playing on android phone.

I have an Oppo Reno Z and it is playing random conversation which sounds like a radio talkback show. Lasts a second or 20 seconds. No apps appear to be running, screen off, etc. Anti virus now installed and found nothing. Working on it ...
