Random Reboots - AFTER the update

I'm on my 4th Phone! This is way past reasonable, even past absurd! I just got off off the phone with Sprint Repair Depot down the street to escalate the issue. My phone still reboots randomly 1, 2, 8 times a day. With this last one, I didn't install anything, didn't tweak anything, I just installed the HTC update.

3 hours after new (on the charger); Boom! Reboot.

On the crash report I chose to preview the log file and scrolled down the 80k lines to the bottom to try and see if I could decipher anything; I found where the phone crashed (or fatal errored) and prompted the reboot. The very first entry after "Warning" is "Corrupt skb detected", and then dozens of lines that contain 'prima_wlan'. I bet it's something with the WiFi and bad packets. I don't much care about it any more, I just need a phone that works! I told Sprint that I want the Samsung... Sorry HTC, ya kinda suck.

Screen Shot of that part of the log file attached.

Hate to tell yah but if your in a network vision upgrade area even the Samsung will have that same issue once they are complete your random reboot issues will be gone

Idk what to tell u. I've had 2 EVO LTE's and had no rebooting issues. Do u have static IP's on your router where u are getting reboots? Is the log file from when u tried to install the ota? If so then it is most likely a corrupt download. Skb works as a pointer to device in linux. Doesn't really make sense to me in the log file.

Good luck with Samsung if that's what u wanna do. Not that another person jumping ship really matters to me. I've had it with HTC about now as well, just committed to this phone for another year or so.

I got a random reboot myself for the first time ever today, I'm trying to be patient with Sprints Network issues, and HTC'S device issues, cause I know once all the kinks are worked out this will be a beast of a phone, but they really making it hard to be patient.

I got a few in their past week since I got this phone. It's a software update fix,, I will not go get a replacement,it won't matter. How many replacements are you going to get until that is realized. The phone is fine.

The only phone you know is fine is your phone. If you're fine with random reboots so be it. Random rebooting is not a feature of the phone. As you said, it's something that might be corrected with an update, which you unwittingly imply is a defect. Hence, you agree it's not fine. As of today the OP 's mobile is not operating as it should. So he has a right to seek a remedy. And maybe a word of encouragement.

Hence I said it's a defect in software, not phone, hence I said it won't be going to get 2 or 3 replacements because the hardware is most likely not the problem with this issue, hence my comment.

It sucks but Zmann is correct it doesn't matter how many replacements they give you if your in a sprint vision upgrade or low service area the phone fights to get a signal and then it reboots it get all hot and bothered.....But it is his right to go ahead and continue to get new replacements if he likes . Whenever i would work at the marlins my phone would reboot... I would have to actually turn off all antennae and it would stop....Its my second phone by the way and it happened...

I know Metro LA is getting LTE, but why would that cause reboots? My phone is sitting on my desk, at -74dBm (5 of 6 bars). The last thing it should be doing is fighting for a signal. I only wish I had this signal at home! (Had to get the Airave...).

I know of 2 people, in the very same building, that have the Samsung III with Sprint. They haven't had any issues what so ever. No reboots, dropped calls, bad signal, nada...

I depend on my cell to work properly (too much to ask?). Part of earning my living is me being reachable. The last thing a person wants to hear when their server just crashed, is voicemail. And that is entirely possible when your phone reboots as much as 11 times in a single day.

I'm not really sure if there is a point to my reply, or if it's just a scattered rant. Here are a few things I know to be true: Sprint screwed up with this whole LTE thing. Sprint also screwed up with the whole WiMax thing (4G). Sprint shouldn't be selling LTE phones when only 2-3% of the market has LTE.

I'll keep you updated on my situation - I'm not sure if they're going to put me into a Samsung yet, I'm waiting for a decision from some Regional Manager... If/when I do, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks to all for your insight, contribution, and opinions.

Shortly after posting my previous reply, the phone rebooted 3 times within about 90 seconds of each other. I didn't even have enough time to get to the bottom of the log file before it would do it again. After the 3rd time I was able to go to the crash log. I have attached them, for anyone that is curious. I'm pretty sure the numbers at the beginning of each item are a measurement of time, probably seconds... but I"m just guessing.

Update: Sprint did the right thing and replaced my device with a different make/model. I am on the Samsung III now and haven't had a single solitary issue.

4 phones, 34 days, and I am finally happy. I wonder if hoping for LTE will jinx/curse me?

I'll hope in secret...

Bought this evo from someone for $100 and it was fine except it was hard to hear phone conversations. Had to get a headset to hear. I didn't have the reboot problems until I selected the HTC sync ffeature and now it reboots 10-20 times a day. It is getting worse each day. In addition, since I did that install, which I thought would make transfering things easier, my computer no longer reads the phone to download pictures from the usb. Unfortunately I have a zillion pictures and videos on there before I got a data storage device. NOW this stupid rebooting thing..twice today when I was on phone calls...important ones, it shut down. I took it to the Best buy geeks and they said take it back to sprint probably is a hardware problem. Decided to try all the fixes suggested onlin. One guy said to turn off the auto brightness setting and leave it at 50 % did that...it rebooted...maybe it hadn't cooled down enough. Now trying the wi fi thing...

Obviously there was a reason why he sold it,, it is defective.
