Random remote widget!! Freezing phone.

This just happened to me as well and I cannot even restart my phone. Did you figure out a way to unfreeze and remove the remote?? I have the Galaxy 6.

Found for Galaxy 6, you need to press down (not up button and power). Suggest pressing the power, then the down button and hold for about 10 seconds.

Similar to suggestion above, once you reboot your phone you can change settings. Go to Settings --> Applications --> Application Manager --> Downloaded --> Peel Smart Remote. Uninstall the updates for this app, and disable. This fixed the problem for me.
