Rant, why's there any delay when showing all running apps, for the X to close the app?

I know that I can swipe to close, but there's no purpose of the running apps even being displayed without the X in the corner to close.

This just means that the screen must refresh twice, to show me the X when Android gets ready to complete what I request.

Welcome to Android Central! I don't quite understand -- why do you think that swiping an app away isn't the same as if there were an X to remove the app from the Recent Apps list?
