Rapid Battery Drain using GPS (Waze) while charging.

Anyone else have problems with the battery draining while using GPS in the car? Yesterday I drove for two hours and went from 99% to about 48%, all while charging (no other apps running, auto-brightness, no bluetooth, etc.) The charger isn't the fault as I tested it with my wife's M8 (using same apps, etc.). The M8 reached 100% and stayed there. I've since purchased a 2.0 quick charger (which I've yet to use) but I have no idea why the performance would be drastically worse on the M9. I ran a check disk on my SD card (Sandisk Ultra 64GB) and so errors were found. Are others experiencing similar results? Outside of the car/GPS use, battery seems close to the M8 but, if anything, a little worse. I can live with that but cannot have my phone drained after a long drive in the car.

Try it with the card removed. A loop in the directory structure can have the media scanner running forever, draining a lot of battery - but it's a data defect, not a card defect, so chkdsk probably won't notice it.

As for why the charger can't keep up with the GPS and Waze, I have no idea, but start with a fully charged battery, run Waze and GPS for a few hours, even if you aren't going anywhere, then check the battery stats - Settings/General/Battery. If Waze is the largest user, that's probably the problem. If not, Waze may be calling for a location almost constantly, and that uses a lot of battery (but the phone should be able to handle that - most phones can run Maps for hours when they're plugged in).

Thanks. With regard to the first part about trying with card removed, if that were the case wouldn't I expect to see poor battery life whether running Waze / GPS or not? I've been in my office all day (and thus no Waze / GPS usage) and I've only dropped 26% over 7 hours (per GSam) which is about what I've been getting with this phone under normal usage. I should also add that temperature is not an issue in the car as I have the phone over the AC vent and the temp is always low/normal.

Thanks again and I'll try your suggestions. Much appreciated. I have an open ticket with HTC regarding another issue and I plan to ask them about it as well. I've seen others complaining about chargers not keeping up with GPS with this phone but nothing like I experienced. I'll report back if I have any info. I want to love this phone (as I have most previous HTC phones - the Thunderbolt sucked) but I'm really questioning whether it's an improvement on the M8.

I solve the problem by buying a 2.4A car charger, now it's not only stop draining battery it is also charging.
I recommend BC Master Quick Charge 2.0.
