so i have decided to sell my beloved windows phone and pick up either a razr or gnex... i have oretty much ruled out the rezound, not a big fan of htc ... i havent used either... i know the gnex is running "ICS but the razr will def be getting it , soon hopefully... hardware seems to be better on razr? which would you choose?

They are both good phones. My advice to you would be too go to a Verizon store and spend some time with the display phones, visit the forums, and Google the reviews for each phone. If you do all that It will be alot easier to decide which one you feel is best for your own personal taste and needs.

I would still take the Rezound over the others, but I am biased like that. :D

More to your question, you should pick between the Maxx and the GN and I think the gnex is the way to go.

Moto is a pain in the butt....

The best way to find out, go to a store, try em both & see what you like more & what fits your needs more.

Plus, CTIA will start this week & maybe you like something more

Personally I'll pick the RAZR because :

• Its "Built Tough" , Motorola phones can take an unbelievable amount of beating & survive ... talking from a personal experience, for example : my old Milestone fall to the asphalt & a Taxi ran over it (long story) & the phone kept running like nothing happened, not even a crack

• Motorola makes the best speakers in the cellphone industry (both loud & clear)

• Motorola makes the best radios too

• It have a built-in 16GB storage & comes with a 16GB SD card (storage is an issue to me)

• It have a Kevlar back (50 points in my book :) )

• The RAZR MAXX have a big 3300 mAh battery, add to it their excellent tweaks & you will an outstanding battery life, I get over 2 days from my Atrix's stock 1930 mAh battery with heavy usage

• I'm not a fan of the "Vanilla" Android, I can't stand it & I'll get a blackberry before I get anther "Vanilla" Android

• I'll pick a Motorola over anything else, because of my good experiences with their hardware (RAZR V3, OG Milestone & Atrix) & their outstanding support (granted their update process is slow) , but if you have a problem they won't hesitate to help you

Those are my reasons & I'm sure people will disagree with me

I hope that helps

By the way :
You have a Trophy, right?
How was Windows Phone?
Do you recommend it?
I love WP & I'm seriously thinking about getting WP, but decided to wait for WP8

Thanks

Agreed ...

another thought, you could play with them in the store, pick one and then take it back within the time frame allotted (14 days for VZW stores, Best Buy and Costco have longer ones) if you hate it.

IceDree: I would beg to differ with you on 2 points. HTC has great radios and speakers. Sammy makes the worst so that is a negative for the gnex.

Also, the gnex has 32 gigs built in if I remember right, it just isn't expandable but meets your criteria

About HTC, radios and speakers......

2 Rezounds for me...both weren't as good as my RAZR for reception and overall call quality. My kids mother is using my Rezound...and hates the speaker compared to my RAZR.

I posted my issues with both Rezounds, both had the exact same issues, wont go into it here too much. The Rezound does get good 4G reception, in places the G Nex couldnt......when it isnt stuck in 1x or no data. I mean stuck where I have to reboot to fix it. RAZR only had to toggle data or airplane mode to fix any data issues. And my RAZR had less data issues than my Rezounds...

Either I got a good working RAZR and sim card for it...or the G Nex I tried and Rezounds I had were bad and/or had bad sim cards.

I also agree about Samsung and their radios....since 2007, 2008....before I even had an Android phone....every Samsung phone I had just wasnt as good for reception as my Motorolas. The Samsung u740 and Omnia 1. I dont bring it up alot....some folks get in their feelings about history...lol. With Samsung...I think its just a case of.... it is what it is...

Which phone to get....depends on your wants n needs. They both are great in their own way.

I went RAZR > GNex because of price. I really did not necessary prefer one over the other. I'm happy with my choice to take the RAZR, but I honestly think I would be just as happy if I had the Nexus. It came down to $220 for a practically brand new RAZR or $300 for an equivalent Nexus (I used ebay).

From the reviews I've read, it looks like the RAZR has the edge in hardware and the Nexus in software, but neither by enough to matter too much. I think once ICS is officially available and developers are able to work with that official build, the RAZR will have the edge, at least in my book. The unlocked bootloader, etc. may still give the Nexus the edge for others.

Also, for people who don't root or use custom ROMs, I don't mind the Moto UI, especially compared to the TouchWiz I had on my Charge. "Vanilla" Android is nice, but I actually hesitated to install a custom ROM because I liked the stock Moto UI. I ultimately chose to go with Eclipse 1.3 because I like having 5 dock icons (phone, sms, apps, gtalk, gmail).

As for the Rezound, I don't like the size of it. It's bulkier than the RAZR and Nexus, and although it has a 1.5 ghz processor, the reviews I've read claim this doesn't actually separate its performance from the other two. And I could care less about the Beats headphones, but because they are "valued at" a high price, it increases the price of the phone. At an equal price, I would take the RAZR or Nexus over the Rezound. If I could have found a Rezound for $200, I would not have hesitated to take it, though.

To summarize, take everyone else's advice and go try both phones out and see which you prefer. I think these phones are ultimately very similar, and a decision will likely come down to your personal preference.

I own and have used both phones - the RAZR (not MAXX) and the Gnex. The RAZR is the far superior phone. Yes, ICS is nice and I can't wait until it shows up on the RAZR, but that is the only place the Gnex is better.

First - the battery on the Gnex is awful. The RAZR is decent, and with smart actions actually pretty good. I easily last a full day which to be fair is generally spent in my office on WiFi.

I use tasker on the Gnex, but it is not as good as smart actions on the RAZR in terms of ease of setup and effectiveness.

Second - the cell and wifi radios on the Gnex are not even close to as good as on the RAZR. Let me repeat - not even close.

Therefore, if you are simply going to "play" with your phone, ICS on the Gnex looks great. However, if you actually want to make a call, or go on the internet the RAZR is clearly the better choice.

My kids mother has a nexus s, had it for at least a month. Looking at reviews the other day I just found out it also has reception issues.

Hate to say it...but reception issues has followed Samsung for years. Just like good reception has followed Motorola for years.

I actually just traded my gn for a razr. I would lose all data/voice at least 3 times a day. I'm currently waiting for the razr to arrive. I'm on my 3rd gn for the same issue(radios). Its bad when u can even dial 911 bc there's no data/voice for about 10-15 min. I'm also in a strong 3G area. I had the og dx and loved it. I hoping the razr gives me the same satisfaction the og dx did.

You can't seriously be including the Bionic in that statement.

The Bionic has signal issues even with Motorola's "superior" radios.

Every phone cant be a home run.

Look at the overall body of work between the 2 companies. Even with Samsung's reputation for weaker reception....the Galaxy S2 didnt have many complaints. And I would like to point out that like with the Galaxy Nexus....that many, many ppl say "try [insert update here], it makes the phone better" updates have made the Bionic better for some ppl...

We cant tell folks to wait for updates for one phone.....then still condemn another for the same thing. When in both cases it has helped some ppl.

There are some cases of ppl going back to a Bionic after using a G Nex too....based on reception issues.

thanks for all the info! i decided to go woth a razr simpy due to hardware, which i am a huge fan of. samsung has always felt cheap to me, lightweight plastic. my uncle has 2 nexus s 4g's on sprint and has cracked screens on both of them already. given they do get updates very quickly, not because of samsung, because it is stock, it isnt enough for me. from everything 'ive read and seen on tech reviews, moto has better build quality, camera, call reception, battery life, and keyboard. plus i like the new moto UI. and just like the rest of you, my best phones have all been moto. still to date, my most reliable phone so far was my OG droid X.

anyway i found one on ebay off contract for 249, so i snagged it up. it should be here tomorrow and i cant wait. played with one in sam's club yesterday, man is this thing slim!!! best looking hardware and design ive seen on a phone to date!

now i just need to learnt the tips and tricks of the phone, its been awhile since ive had an android.

ps sorry for posting a new thread on this subject, failed to see the sticky
