Razr Orientation Sensor Inop

I am not sure if it worked ever only had the phone a week. Verizon says that its working if the phone flips between portrait and landscape mode.

Sensor list shows all 0's for orientation and the mag sensor will not bring up any data. All my apps that use this will not work at this time.

What I would like to know:
Does the Razr need updated apps for apps that use the orientation sensor?

My thoughts are that the phone is not working...
