RCS issues with Google Messages.

For now, I always leave RCS off when using the Google Messages app, and basically am only just using the app for its SMS/MMS (and for its iPhone reactions) functionality. For me, there just still isn't enough people stably using RCS for it to be worthwhile. Back long ago when I had an iPhone, I periodically had similar issues with iMessaging, similar to what the OP reported for RCS.
I don't get what the advantage is of intentionally leaving it off though? I mean, it's awesome for the few times you're able to use it.

I only have a couple family members with Android (using GM w/RCS active) and a couple neighbors and friends, but it is nice to see the Chat features in use.

It's a mental block thingy on my end. I'm not yet willing to surrender for all my short messaging needs to have to be facilitated by Google servers, like currently happens for iMessaging with Apple servers. I'm still more content for all my short messaging to be facilitated by carrier to carrier interoperability, independent of Apple or Google. I'm not yet more in need of the richer and more secure exchanges that RCS (or iMessaging) can provide, in exchange for being slaved to the Google or Apple servers. It's the same reason I haven't switched to What'sApp (or pick any other third party messenger app name) for all my short messaging needs.

One advantage of leaving it off is reliability. Many people have had issues with RCS, so if it's turned off you can be a little more confident that your message actually left your phone.

Maybe... I think it's a luck of the draw thing though. To be fair, it's been pretty solid for me the last couple of months. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it lol.
Lol hopefully but I know Google apps always being updated and sometimes glitchy, if Samsung version would allow RCS chat on unlock devices and iPhone reactions I probably be on that message app.

The samsung messaging app on my unlocked 24 ultra has RCS messaging, I'm in the UK though, so is this different in the US? The only thing it doesn't have is the iPhone reactions, it would be good if samsung integrated it into the messaging app though.

I'm not seeing any rcs setting in Samsung messages app. Does yours actually say RCS in your settings?

Looks like it's called "Chat Settings" in Samsung messages, do you have that? or is it Brexclusive?

Also, judging by the warning to use Google messages that pops up, it looks like anyone who hasn't jumped ship from Samsung messages will get pushed off the boat relatively soon.

No there is no "Chat Settings" in my message Settings.

What warning message? I have not seen any warnings about Google messages?

When first opening either Google messages or Samsung messages you get a pop up saying that Google messages is now the default messaging app on Samsung devices, so it sounds like samsung will ditch their messaging app at some point.

Interesting. I have not seen that although I use Google Messages anyway, but I did try to use Samsungs.

I always used Samsung messages. It's worked great for year's but I've started using Google messages now on the 24 ultra, and that's when I first saw the warning pop up.

Samsung messages has Jibe baked in now (the RCS client Google acquired to integrate RCS into its own app).

Samsung or your carrier may call it something else like advanced or enhanced messaging.

I would think Samsung's willingness to let go of its own messaging app is due to their lack of interest in integrating RCS services and managing the upkeep, but that's just speculation on my part.

There is no advanced or enhanced message Settings within my Samsung Settings as far as I can see.
