I know this has been discussed, but I cant seem to find all the info in one thread which makes me nervous about something not meshing up correctly.

I have an EVO running 2.2 (Froyo).. I want to used unrevoked 3.2 to root it with my macbook pro.. possible correct yes? all signs seem to point to yes.

When I root the phone, my current sprint sense rom will be on there right? I wont loose my applications, etc?

yes you can use unrevoked with a macbook pro. I did when I used unrevoked. But... I unrooted and re did it using a different method. Unrevoked it a bit misleading. There is more than one step to rooting with unrevoked. It's not just that one step. Make sure you do all the research on it to ensure you obtain full root. If you just run the unrevoked app on ur macbook you haven't obtained full root.

I cant recall if you'll have all your apps. But you will have the stock ROM. I would suggest installing appbrain and syncing before you do anything else just in case you loose your apps.

I didn't lose any of my apps when using unrEVOked so you should be fine but as truslide said, sync your apps with appbrain just in case.

thanks you guys! to the both of you.

Everything went off without a hitch. If I don't have a "full root" what does that limit me to? My main reason was to get unlimited wifi tethering... which does work now.

I've rooted 3 phones so far (co workers) unrevoked doesn't wipe your data. It just turns off nand and gives you root access

you need to obtain full root otherwise everything youve done is worthless... i dont know the process for unrevoked, you'll have to search

Even if you install "Terminal Emulator", which you should install, and type SU, it will say you're rooted, but it's only partial. You wont be able to flash roms/kernels, nandroid backup, etc... i'd pm Trust and ask his help to obtain full root. It's the only way to wifi tether...

You should consider a ROM like Vaelpak. He has a lot of apps preinstalled in his ROM, like...

Restoggle
wifi tether
Vaelpak Settings (which is amazing)

Some things you should download are...

ROM Manager
Terminal Emulator
Root Explorer
Spare parts
Shoot me
Autostarts
Cachemate
Titanium Backup

Those apps will make you're root experience a whole lot better as well as help the performance of your phone and battery.

With the right kernel and setCPU settings, as well as some other minor tweaks you can get a full day out of your EVO's battery with moderate use. I've been off the charge since 6am EST using my phone all day and i'm at 67%...
