Still can crack even with a case. Plus dirt/sand will gather beneath the case and lightly scratch the glass. Have you seen an iPhone 4 with a case over it, after some time? It doesn't look brand new, that's for sure.

Iphone 4/4s was metal if I'm not mistaken

I think the V30 will stand a chance against the Note 8 because of the fact the fingerprint scanner placement is in a better spot. That can seal the deal. Plus the lower price I'm expecting, with the Note 8 estimated at $1000. It will the called the "alternative note" phone.

I think the V30 will do better than the last few LG models. It won't put a dent in Samsung. The best thing for LG would be another Note fiasco which is highly unlikely.

Which phone were you using? The gorilla glass 2 and 3 were very much more scratch resistant. Gorilla glass 4 and 5 is much easier to scratch, and it looks ugly.

That's bad news about Gorilla Glas and the V30 for me. :( I've been using a Nokia Lumia 920.

I would so like to buy this phone even just to try it out while I still use my V20. Does anyone think it's worth an upgrade? Or starting a contract with it?

Possibly .. but my point still stands that any phone can be damaged even "military grade" (or so called) devices. You ignoring that fact just proves my point of you simply trying to show negative on others versus your favored device :P.

In all fairness, that picture is from the Android authority drop test where it took a drop from seven feet flat on the screen to finally crack it. It survived several drops from five feet before this. I have an s7 edge in my drawer at home that my brother cracked dropping it out of his pocket onto his kitchen floor while in a Spigen neo hybrid case. Nobody will convince me that more curved glass on a phone is a good idea. I miss plastic phones lol

And? My friend has a V20 and it is cracked. Just because that was a readily available picture doesn't mean it doesn't happen to people in real life ;).

Oh I'm positive it happens in real life. Any glass has a chance of cracking, that's why i hate the current trend of making phones with glass backs. You take away metal or plastic that can't crack and replace it with something that can. Glass (like metal) is also slippery as hell without a case.

I'm definitely in the minority of buyers that don't care what a phone looks like and only cares about what it can do. I cringe when reviewers start throwing around the word "premium" every time they review an all glass phone. I'm over here looking at that prototype RED phone with rubber and Kevlar thinking I'll take two of those lol

Ironic that you say that because everyone WANTS a nice and pretty phone, yet buys a case to cover it up. So why make it glass in the first place?

A glass back with a case covering it isn't going to get cracked. I also don't have any scratches on the back of my Note 5 after 2 years either.

Glass allows wireless charging, thinner form factor, better water resistance, and it looks good in a clear case. There isn't any reason not to use it on the back of a phone

It's all glass, actually the first phone to have a unibody glass design. Everytime I see someone take their case off (or I take it off myself to look at it) the glass looked scratched from being inside the case all its life (dirt build up inside). The iPhone 4 was very fragile, my cousin dropped it on carpet and the glass panel broke.

Once the battery starts to show signs of wear and swell up, expect the glass panel to lift up from the body (I've seen it first hand on iPhone 5). Wirelessly charging will reduce longevity by 3x due to excessive heat generated (my S6 Active had a 3500 mAh, couldn't hold a decent charge after 8 months). Thinner form factor is false, the V20 is THINNER than the Note 5 and has a bigger battery. Why do people care about looks, who's looking at it exactly? Are you going to attract your mate with it? Unibody phones are usually trashed after 2-3 years or sooner because of poor battery life (ahem, Nexus 6P? Go see yourself in the forums).

My mistake.... I meant the 5

Almost everything you said is objectively false. The glass panels aren't going to pop off because of battery swelling. Wireless charging doesn't reduce longevity of the battery. Glass does allow for a thinner form factor. No, the LG V20 is not thinner than the Note 5. The Note 5 was the same thickness while also being shorter and thinner than the V20. The LG V20 is thinner than the Note 7 by 0.01 inches, but the Note 7 was also shorter than the V20 and the Note 7 was thinner than the V20 and Note 5. Everybody cares about how their phones looks to some degree. Unibody phones are not usually trashed after 2-3 years because of poor battery life. The cheap, Chinese made Nexus 6P is a poor example of quality. It is in JerryRigEverything's Hall of Shame for being destroyed by bending.

The good thing about the iPhone 4/4s glass back though was that it was extremely easy to remove and replace. Just two screws and the back slid right off, also made replacing the battery very easy too.

I wish the metal frame would be matte instead of that chrome look. The plastic stripes would be less visible then. Also I dislike that the speaker holes are placed only on one side of the device. Other manufacturers hide the microphone behind fake speaker holes to get a clean, symmetric look around the USB port.
That's a clean looking device 😎😎😎

i like what I'm seeing with the V30 leaks. i might be ready to get a new phone soon.

This is down the quality of case you buy. My S7 Edge has been in a Pure.Gear and now a SPECK case, and the back and sides are still spotless as the cases keep dust out.
