REALLY FRUSTRATED with EVO 3D (Resurrecting my own thread)

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I have noticed to many issues with this phone so far and Quiet frankly its pissing me off... I've had my camera lock up on me a bunch of times, my data speeds are rediculously slow plus I get lines going through my widgets. I also have a lot of light leaking at the bottom. I just feel like this phone was poorly made.. I have decided that I am going to test my luck with the Photon come the 31st

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I also upgraded from my very stable Evo 4G and can't say I'm overwhelmed by this phone. For me, the Evo 3D wouldn't receive a single phone call for a week. After 2 phone calls to Customer Service telling me (just as the OP) to update my PRL and Profile, still nothing. I even went to the Sprint Support forums to no help as well. The phone just suddenly began receiving calls today for no apparent reason...

On top of that, I have had the strangest issue with the stability of the device. Apps simply disappear (I've re-installed AppBrain 3 times) and there's a green Android icon for an app that vanished on my home screen and for the life of me, I can't seem to remember which app that was... FRUSTRATING!!!

Also, settings just seem to reset themselves on the device as well as in apps. Handcent, for example, has completely changed the fonts by no effort by me (yet they are still there for the pop-up). The notification sound changes at will (my Evo 3D seems to love "Hey Soul Sister" by Train)....

Not the experience I was particularly looking for in a high end phone... I'm REALLY close to switching this thing out for the Photon 4G coming in a couple days...

Continuation of rant - Also I question some of the design features of this phone. The tiny (and I mean tiny) speaker is laughable, and I've had a couple people having a hard time hearing me in phone calls. I have this thing on my hip in a Seido Hev3D case with the volume max'd and I still can't hear this thing when it rings (although it has only been a day)....

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Sounds like the "magic bit syndrome". The bit has a memory and at some random time, reverts back to it's hardware preferred state. SO the software loads and runs, until the bit changes. Then it sets a "i don't match image" flag for emmc to barf on.
Service can only catch "magic bits" by luck, cause they will test as good, until they magically go bad.

Return the phone. If the Sprint store manager doesn't readily help, ask to be connected to customer service - from the store line... sets off Sprint flags about customer care.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I've had mine since launch day and the only times I've rebooted were when Voice Input wouldn't connect. (There seems to be an issue with lots of apps in memory and rebooting works every time.)

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Definitely take it back! This is a known issue with the 3D. I had the same lockup issue with my first 3D. It happened while in the Sprint store after my phone was activated. The tech couldn't figure out why the phone was doing that and pulled the battery. Once the battery was inserted, the phone booted ok. So he told me if it happens again, just pull the battery. Well...that same day the screen locked up 4-5 times. Tapping the power button did nothing, the bottom icons were still lit so I knew the phone was on but had a black screen. I called Sprint the next day and they did a reset. The tech told me that should help. The reset did calm down the screen lock, but it still happened once in a while. I took it back and got a new phone. So far, this new phone hasn't locked up yet.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

My wife ended up taking her EVO 3D back to Radio Shack for a swap after having continuing issues with the phone never coming back on after pressing the power button. It doesn't sit well with me considering I really wanted to get this phone but couldn't so I strongly recommended for her upgrade.

When I discovered the back cover takes the top of the power button with it I was instantly annoyed with the phones construction.

I can see where people think this phone is lacking the shine and coolness that the EVO 4G brought just a year ago.

I deffiently hear you...the power button is cheap, and is very sensative..This along with the front aluminum housing is a really bad move by HTC..very disappoined compared to the built and look of the 4g..The only really good thing HTC did was put the 1.2 dual core cpu inside, now that or better is the norm for a high end smartphone...I gotta few more days with the 3d and really thinking bout going back to the 4G untill a better quality phone comes out...thank god i didnt sell my 4G ...im sorry to say , but i think this 3d should't have the Evo's name in it..its an embarrassement how HTC let go of their quality

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Well, I spoke to a sprint Rep today about getting out of the E3D due to being on my 3rd phone since launch day. They reset my renewal date and said that they would let me get inti a new phone. The only problem is there is not any other phones in sprints lineup that are compairable in specs.

Anyone think its worth waiting for the Galaxy S2 or just go photon?

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Well, I see alot of people is having problems with their evo 3d's. My experience with the evo3d has been pretty good for the couple weeks that Ive owned the device. The only complaint that I have is the signal issues. My OG Evo has more bars in the same places where my evo3d either has 0-2 bars or it is roaming. Hopefully, Sprint and HTC can fix these issues like they are about to do with the Nexus S via OTA update.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Wow! Thanks for the responses everyone! :D Threads like this are why androidcentral.com is so helpful.

I plan on getting to a Sprint store today at lunchtime (CST - Chicago) and hopefully get some resolution. It's always a pain in the butt getting my apps reinstalled and the screens how I like them but whatever. :p

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I noticed someone else in the thread mentioned "lines" through their widgets. Mine started doing this last night. Honestly the *only* problem I've had with the phone in the 2+ weeks I've owned it. Went by the Sprint store after lunch to ask them about it and they were like "the tech's going to wipe it if you leave it for them to look at. try removing and re-adding the widgets and see if that helps."

So, I did. And it did.... for now. We'll see if the problem comes back. Sense 3.0 is pretty cool, but a lot of the things it does, I find a bit annoying after running CyanogenMod on my OG Evo for the past year. Can't wait to get this stupid bootloader unencrypted so we can get some real CM love for this phone. I'm thinking about trying ADW EX on it till then, since I've already paid for it with my OG Evo.

All of that said, I just want to say again that I've had no real problems with the phone other than this annoying widget thing. I do like it and I have to say the sheer processing power of the thing is awesome. All my games and apps run *amazingly* well.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

Just upgraded from the Evo 4g and mine did the same thing, locked up 3-4 times daily. Only fix was to pull the battery. After a few days that didn't even work. Took it back and got a replacement (new) one. Everything works fine now.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

On my 2nd phone, its having some of the same problems as the 1st phone, but not as long or as frequent. Problems such has... 1. screen unresponsive, 2. screen partially responsive when trying to unlock, 3. phone locking up, 4. apps deleting themselves from phone.
I'm thinking about the Photon on Sunday.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

yea dont get me wrong the EVO was my favorite phone so fast and battery was legit but idk ive had so many problems and since its on employee plan i have to wait like 5 days for an RMA kit really frustrating when my phone keeps on power cycling we should get the photon later this week ill test it out and see if its worth it i will miss roming and having my device rooted =(

I haven't any problems with my evo other then the cheap screen and poor battery life. I don't care for gingerbread or sense 3.0 either

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I'm done with evo 3d. I have had to replace it twice the screen tilt dust and bug one fir me missing paint from the menu keys area it looks like stars at night. I loved my evo 4g fast OK batter life and screen was vibrant. 3d screen yellow colors look off and no where neat the brightness. I'm9 going to photon come Sunday love HTC but for a company who has been making tons of money of on device sales you would think that there quality control would improve.. o well I know Motorola is not with out there flaws but they are doing well from what I've seen.

Re: REALLY FRUSTRATED with the EVO 3D

I am waiting on my second EVO 3D, I ordered online and when I called they offered a replacement. That was almost 2 weeks ago, so when I called they said it was on backorder. I thought that was strange. My issues are with my current 3D. Bad signal compared to my Hero, crappy 3g speeds, whenever I use earphones or my aux cable in my truck any music player I try goes spastic (there's a word from a few years back) and it has gotten hot a few times.
