My battery life is not as good as it used to be. What I was running in the past was probably a little bit redundant which i am trying to avoid and speed up my Optimus. (and if my explanations for the apps are incorrect, I am sorry, I winged it)

Which apps should I keep and are useful, and which ones are redundant or are not useful???

Here are some of the primary apps I use on my system, other apps and such that I see running a lot I freeze and unfreeze when I need to use them:

SetCpu: set to auto from 245mhz to 748mhz

AutoMemoryKiller Optimizer: Set to ultimate 200,225,250

BatteryCalibration: Once charged to 100% I use it once, then uninstall

Lookout Mobile: This is just to cover my butt, but I am not sure if it is useful

PowerControlWidgets: Comes stock with Reborn Rom 2.1

WatchDroid 5.4: In the event I lose my phone or get mugged or kidnapped ;)

Here are the apps I would like to install but am not entirely sure which ones I really NEED:

Android Assistant 2.3.5: This I believe stops programs from restarting once the OS is booted

Autostarts 1.7.0: This one stops programs from launching at boot and when certain events that trigger the apps would normally launch

JuiceDefender Ultimate 3.5.6: I never used this, but it turns off all data usage, which is nice but I get all of my email and txt messages and stuff

Advanced Task Manager Pro: I used to use this, but I simply use the GoLauncher EX appdrawer manager.

Autorun Manager 2.1.1: This also watches for situations which trigger apps to launch and or run in the background

Startup Auditor 2.3.2: This one stops apps from booting and from launching at other points....

I don't use ANY of those apps and I have fine battery life. Maybe you trying to get the most out of it is BOGGING down your system. That is A LOT of apps to try to optimize such a small device IMO. It is absolutely possible that your battery just isn't charging as much as it used to. Have you tried to bump charge your cell? U might want to try that. Otherwise possibly a new battery. Once again, just my opinion, but I don't need any of those apps and experience great performance with HIGH usage.

Lookout Mobile pops out at me. It is a major battery hog. Honestly virus protection on Android is pointless. The best protection is looking at the permissions each app is requesting and ask yourself if the permissions requested match what the app is for.

And would you mind telling me why you are using the Xionia kernel instead of the built-in picasticks kernel? That MAY be where your battery issues are coming from.

I will uninstall lookout mobile and see where that goes.

As far as the Xionia kernel, I was more curious than "going rogue" as sarah palin would say. Also it was mentioned in another thread that in my attempt to get data2ext to work that it was an option to swap kernels.

ULTIMATELY, I think the huge battery drain was largely due to the fact that I did not have SetCPU installed for like a day. That saves battery life big time, or at least I think it does.

See, when I got my phone just about a month ago +, my battery life just in general was terrible. I mean I felt like I had that damn thing plugged in ALL of the time. And coming from a winmo phone with an extra battery and external charger this was startling.

Since I switched to Reborn Rom and originally ran picasticks kernel my battery life was great.

I formatted and re-flashed 2 days ago, and my battery life tanked. Now I know for a fact these apps in one combination or another worked and worked well. I was more looking for input about what ones do the same thing and or which ones work better than others.

(i have and always will be a "need a ton of apps" on my phone kind of guy, and I will go to great lengths to achieve this)

To each his own :) Good luck

I don't use setcpu and my battery life is great; anywhere from 36 to 48 hours with what I characterize as generally moderate usage. I briefly installed noFrills only to verify my default settings, which are like yours along with the ondemand governor, and then removed it.

Sounds like a lot of this process is personal preference, and ultimately less is better.

That concept somehow reminds me of this dude one day at the paintball field. dude shows up with this sweet gun, a vest full of ball tubes, jersey, gloves....everything. Yeah, he sucked, and kept on dropping his stuff. And was blaming it on everything except for himself.

LOL! Know that one well. The kids at our field show up with the angels and shockers, motorized hoppers, and tubes of paint. The old guys, myself included, show up with pump cockers and what's in the manual hopper. I love to see their frustrated faces as they walk off the field and we remain. Or as we like to say: Skill and treachery usually overcome youth and energy.

Nick7 has a thread on here which points to a thread on XDA that details how to see what is using your battery and what to do to maximize battery charge life. It hasn't been referenced for a while so has slipped back several pages in the listing, but a search should locate it and it's definitely something to look into.

Tempted to try AutoKiller Memory Optimizer as it seems to handle things differently than the four thousand other task killers. But after reading things, I can’t tell if it does nothing on unrooteds or most or some. Closest answer, in the description: ROOT REQUIRED to set minfree values, unrooted devices will not have this feature... shall I assume that it’s pointless without access to them?

If you keep re-flashing, changing kernels, etc, you need to wipe your battery stats file and start fresh.

Fully charge your phone while its off, do a couple bump charges.

Once the battery is maxed out, reboot into recovery and wipe the battery stats file.

It will get re-created when the phone boots and should re-calibrate your battery usage.

After a couple days of use, you will see your true battery drain / usage patterns.

Ultimate Juice does quite good at turning off the radio/wireless when not in use.
This alone can improve a lot of battery life.

Jefboyarde- yes you need root to change the values. Advanced taskkiller has a feature that autokills apps frequently and you can whitelist apps you don't want it to automatically close.

***edit*** I did do a couple bump charges and battery life has improved.
