Received 5.1 Update OTA? Post here!

Trusted Places has not worked right for me for the last 4 or 5 days. It would be nice to get this update soon.

N6 64GB purchased directly from Motorola and running on Sprint.
Still no 5.1 OTA this morning so I fell back to an old update trick (I think from the EVO days...?)

[Settings] -> [Apps] -> swipe over to [All] -> scroll to [Google Services Framework] and tap to open.
Clear Data then Force Stop
Now go back to [About phone] -> [System updates] and manually check for the update.

Showed 5.1 available almost immediately.

Update: While I've never had any issues using this method there could be potential risks involved. YMMV

From Android engineer Dan Morill November 2013; "Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use."

Doing that is actually bad for your phone. If you do it enough times you'll have to re log in to your Google account because the play store won't recognize your device.

Updated original post to include potential "nuisances" involved with the force close Google framework services method.

Had to do a factory reset (phantom voicemail icon) and the update was there. USCC. No problems so far.

Ok now I'm starting to feel impatient.

Bought from Google Play. Using on AT&T. Still on 5.0.1 :-/

AC App
Nexus 6

Why is Google rolling out the update to Sprint and other carrier versions before the ones they sold directly from Google Play or Motorola? I don't get it. I am getting really impatient after spending $650 up front to be put at the back of the line for 5.1. Just roll the thing out in a couple days to everyone.

Great Question.

It worked like a dream, update popped up as soon as I'd cleared the data.

Meh, says Google. But they're just saying that to try and get you to atop doing it. As long as you know how to deal with the minor repercussions of that, there is no problem doing that. This slow rollout hogwash is just a scapegoat for Google's inability to do rollouts properly like Apple does.

What I don't get is all the nexus users saying their phone is amazing and perfect but then all of a sudden the phone is broken when an update is announced.

Be patient folks, I'm sure your phone is still working.

N6 purchased direct from Moto, still waiting, I was patient but really looking forward to data working while on a call and getting Verizon Visual Voicemail back, Google Voice just does not work consistently well for me unfortunately.

My Nexus 6 won't stay in "No Interruptions" mode. Anytime I put it in that state, it changes to vibrate as soon as I get a notification. I know this isn't affecting many, if any, other people but I'm hoping the update will fix that. If not, I'll have to send this one back since they won't put silent mode back on the phone.

Got it, updated and ran into whole bunch of issues from Boot loop to random reboots ( i've posted another thread for this )
After update :
1. Crashes , crashes and crashes from apps to google play, google apps etc.
2. Force close of apps and Random reboots..

Basically, i am pissed and irritated that i messed my perfectly working N6 with 5.1 :(

No its not. If a new update bricks your phone and everyone updates at once then you'll complain. If it's not fast enough you complain. Just sideload the damn thing. Its not hard. They do this so they don't cripple a bunch of phones at once. Let 1% figure out if there are glaring issues. Then progress over the next couple of weeks. I don't understand why people can't be patient.

Wugs toolkit will update you and it is all automated. Anyone really antsy should just use it to upgrade.
