Receiving Text notifications from 1 person, but no actual text is there. Why?

For some reason I am receiving text notifications from only 1 person, my ex. I see a bunch of numbers and letters when I see the preview of the text message, but when I open it up... Nothing is there.... I also can tell if they have Read or not Read my messages, and there are some cases they haven't even read my message and I am still receiving text notifications.... They claim they are not sending me anything.... Could they be tracking my location, and this is a way I am getting notified of it?

No, but they could be "pocket dialing" in some way that sends texts. If the numbers and letters you see aren't your ex's phone number, it could be an automated texting service trying to sell you something (just put that number in your phone's ignore list) or it could be a virus. It's not possible to get any closer to the actual cause this way - someone who knows how to find out has to have the phone in his or her hands.

No... it just happened now. I told my ex I was going out of town, and when I arrived at my location I got a notification of a text from him and the last thing was from me.
