Receiving Texts and Notifications while in Sleep Mode

I just purchased the HTC Thunderbolt and had a question on notifications while in sleep mode.

I have my phone go to sleep mode to save battery, every 2 mins of non-use. And I read that it will automatically leave sleep mode, when an incomming call comes in.

My question is while in sleep mode, can I get my phone to vibrate or a light notification of a text message received? It seems that no vibration occurs if in sleep mode.

If not, is there a setting that dims the screen totally, but allows for notifications to come through for texts etc or does the screen always have to be on out of sleep mode to get these notifications?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Menu - Settings - Display - Screen Timeout (various timers).

Also, if you hit the Power Button, it places it in this mode. It requires you to have to hit the Power Button again and then unlock the screen.

I can get calls come through while in this mode, but texts give no notification unless I hit the Power Button and unlock.

Pretty much, looking for a way to dim the screen to black but still get Text notifications, or vibrations (if in vibrate setting).

You have Silent, Vibrate, and Normal mode...there is no Sleep mode... if you push the Power button for a second, then you will be able to Power Off, Reboot, or put your device into Airplane mode... still no Sleep mode.

Actually I don't want to get woke up for any emails, or text messages, so I put mine into Silent mode and get no notifications... if I wanted notifications I'd put it into Vibrate or Normal and adjust the Volume.

But is there a way to get the screen to dim to black and still get notifications? I am not able to get text messages notifications when the screen dims to black.

And some clarification, maybe Sleep mode is the wrong phrase to use. It the Screen Timeout feature that dims the screen to black, and when you wish to use the phone again, you have to hit the Power Button, then drag the bar down to unlock the screen. At least on my TB that I bought over the weekend.

So essentially, looking to see if the feature exists like my previous phone, where the screen will dim to black (to save battery) but will vibrate and give a notification that a text message is received. And more clarification, this is for during work, and not at night when I put it in silent mode.

Those are just screen timeouts, it turns the display off only. Technically the phone isn't sleeping, so you should still be able to receive texts, email, and calls. I definitely do thats what threw me off a bit. As mentioned below, you can change the sound profile, put it into silent and then you wont hear notifications, the led light would still blink though.

Sleep mode is a Blackberry term... the screen does timeout and as you described that is how you wake your Android up and unlock your screen... the Tbolt can notify you when you get a text message if it's in Normal or Vibrate mode, but you need to go into your Messages application > Menu > Settings > under "Received messages" you will see a Vibrate notifications and all other settings for text messages.

I apologize for the confusion, but when in screen lockout mode, I do not seem to get any vibration OR LED blinking until I exit screen lockout mode.

That is my issue. Any guidance or steps to settings I need to check out, or is this just not possible to black out the screen and receive vibrations for texts and a blinking LED light.

Thanks, yes that is where I am coming from, so getting adjusted to new terms and new phone. Thanks for the help, and I have been testing different settings to get it to do what I used to be able to.

With some more tweaking I was able to get my TB to vibrate while in screen timeout, but the green LED light is a bit dim, and tough to notice in good light (its very bright in the office I work at), so it will take some getting used to but its doable.

Is there a question here??? When I get text messages I DO receive vibrations and LED light notifications when my screen is blacked out.

****EDIT: I stated above how to get vibration or any other notification in your Messages' application... look up ^^^^

There was yes, but I didn't punctuate correctly. I will borrow one of your extra ?. I posted this prior to your post popping up and yes I understand it is working properly for you, and now is on mine as well. I did follow your directions in the above post. The confusion occured due to your post coming up while I was typing my reply, not seeing yours until I was done.

So I guess everything is working correctly now... or am I wrong in that assumption??? You can borrow one of the "?" if you want to for this if you still have a question.
