Reception refreshes on screen awake

I use bluetooth a lot so I have seen and watched this now. My cell signal does not update when the phone is asleep. Once I wake up the screen, the signal then refreshes. Is this normal? Didn't seem to do this with my S5. Seems like I could think I have full bars when I don't or vice versa.
