Recommend Tablet < $200

I'm in the market for my first tablet and want to stay under $200 (preferably $150 to $175).
Refurbished is fine.
I want to pair it with a keyboard.
Android 3.0 or higher
micro SD card slot
To be used for browsing web, email, social networking, reading, occasional movies, skype.
A 7" tablet is probably OK

The refurbished Acer A100 w/ 8GB RAM seems to fit the bill nicely but incuded RAM is very small. That might be OK since I would likely need to use an micro SD card regardless of what RAM was included.

What am I likely missing out on if I don't spend in the $250 range for something like a Samsung Tab 2.

Galaxy Tab 2 is probably the best low end tablet available but Samsung has a horrible past with regular updates.

The Kindle Fire is another option but it doesn't run regular android

The Acer Iconia is a really good tablet and Acer has a nice history or keeping devices updated.

IF you have time, NVIDIA's Kai Platform and the Nexus Tablet point to $200 Quad Core tablets coming real soon

If u need one right now. Gtab 2 7.0 or Acer iconia tab. 7in. I saw one on amazon for 160. But I'd wait. They will release new tabs this summer in that price range and will be high end devices. Acer has a new teg 3 a110 its 7in. But no price. So just wait til the end of the month and tune into Google I/O

Well, you could go the quick Chinese tablet way. You can get one of the Ainol elf 2's for a decent price. Got mine shipped DHL for just under $150.

I have read complaints of the Acer A100 regarding off-axis viewing of the screen. Can anybody confirm?

Personally I don't think any tablet in that price range is worth it. They all have low end hardware, poor screens and just seem like a waste of money.I think you're better off saving for a higher end device.

The Nexus 7 is pretty close. But need to spend $250 to get 16 GB RAM. And it doesn't have a memory slot.

Not sure I need the memory slot but it seems that if I am buying something to read books and watch movies with, I would need more than the 16 GB RAM... Opinions?

It's seeming like I can't get what I want for <= $200. Maybe some of the refurbs will drop in price with the release of the Nexus 7.

Well, the Nexus 7 is like the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet in that they serve media mostly from their sponsors' "clouds." I'm miffed about the lack of an SD slot as well. Hopefully usb otg works on it so we can use card readers or flash drives.

This lack is what makes me want to see what impact the Nexus 7 has on comparable tablets like the 7" Galaxy Tab II.

Oh yeah... i forgot about usb otg... That would really help mitigate the lack of a memory card slot. Is there a reason to believe usb otg wouldn't work on the Nexus 7?

I'm admittedly not the most knowledgable about the wide variety of tablets, but I just purchased a Galaxy Tab2 for my daughter and am very impressed so far. I went to at least 5 different stores, playing with the display tablets and just was not feeling the cheaper ones with 'comparable' specs. Granted, I know a display is just a display...but I couldn't take a chance on getting it home and finding out it was really just that bad. I aimed to stay under $175, but couldn't justify wasting my money on something that just didn't feel or perform right, so I shelled out the additional dollars and am pleased.

The Kindle Fire was nice, but no additional storage or front/back cam was a deal breaker. Nexus 7 looked the most promising, but again, it lacked the front/back cam I wanted for her.
