Recommendations for a Messaging app

I have always used the Verizon Messaging app on my S9. Its simple and easy. However there is one thing I wish it had, an option to select different notification sounds. Right now it just uses the same notification sound that you phone is set to. That means I get the same sound for texts, news alert, emails, etc. I'd like to have a different notification sound for each alert so I can tell by sound if its a text, news or weather alert, etc.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction with a messaging app that lets you select its own notification sound and not the phone default?

That's not the messenging app, that's Android. Try installing SMS Popup. (And keep using the same messaging app.)

Use the phones native Android Notification Settings. Search this website or Google it for your specific phone.
