Recover deleted contacts?

Hi,

A while ago, I went through a massive clean up on my phone and deleted a batch of contacts. But the combination of fast fingers and not paying full attention caused me to delete a few contacts I hadn't intended to delete.

I did some research online, but the easy method (Gmail) didn't seem to work. In fact, gmail doesn't have any of my contacts listed.

I haven't done a hard-copy backup of my phone onto my PC (though I probably should, just in case), so I can't get the contact info that way.

I looked online, and it seems the applications that say they can help all require phone rooting, and considering how tech savvy (or lack-of) that I am, I prefer not to do that...

Are there any ways to recover deleted contacts without having to root the phone?

Thanks!

If the contacts were entered as Google contacts, they're at Google Contacts. If you don't see them, hit More, then Restore contacts..., and you can restore contacts deleted during the last month.

If they weren't Google contacts (Phone, Device or SIM contacts), they're in a database file, marked "deleted". You have t o find the correct file (caries by manufacturer), learn SQL, install an SQLite editor, root the phone, study the Contacts database to figure out which field is the "active/deleted" field, then update the records you want to "undelete", or update them all to make them active, then go back to Contacts and delete the ones you really don't want all over again.

It's a lot of work.

Ouch - that definitely sounds like a pain. Think I'll skip all that stuff.... and wait for the people to contact me (as they were phone only contacts)... at least it wasn't anyone that was a major contact...Thanks for all the info!
