Wishful thinking but does anyone think that Google coming out with a red N5 around the same time Verizon OK's the N7 is more than just coincidence? I'm hoping it's one of Google slick hints that Big Red is getting a Big Red Nexus 5.

Doubtful, the Nexus 5 didn't include all of the LTE bands required for Verizon's network.

Highly doubt we'll see this. VZW had issues with Google when the GNex came out. Don't think we'll see one this time around :-\

Verizon had their chance, (IE: Galaxy Nexus) and that was a DEBACLE! I am glad Google stood up to a carrier. More of this needs to happen in the telecommunication industry. Plus do you really want the beautifully simplistic Nexus 5 ruined with Verizon check marks, and "4G LTE" plastered all over the back?!

Nope as the nexus 5 is global, Vodafone would be a better theory but yet doubt it.

I'm pretty sure Google has already gone on record saying it won't come to Verizon. That's not to say things could change. However, I highly doubt it will.

Is there really a demand for a Verizon Nexus 5? If enough people demand it, I think Verizon will put the Nexus 5 on their network. That's what happened with the iPhone. A lot of people wanted it, so Verizon was forced to add it to their lineup. The same thing could happen with the Nexus 5.

There was when it first released, but when people found out it wouldn't be coming, they either switched carriers or went with the Moto line since that's the closest they'll get to seeing that

VZW doesn't do "people demand it" at all. Ever.

That's a fair point. Perhaps I should say that Verizon does whatever is good for business. If people are willing to pay good money for a product, then Verizon will add it to their lineup because Verizon will make a profit.

For example, there are a lot of people who wanted the Nexus 7 tablet on Verizon. It took a while, but people can buy a Nexus 7 on Verizon very soon. If the Nexus 7 makes a lot of money, Verizon will probably offer future Nexus devices. If the Nexus 7 flops, Verizon is less likely to offer the Nexus line in the future. It's really up to the customers. They'll have to vote with their money.

Perhaps Verizon doesn't want the Nexus 5 smartphone because it doesn't make financial sense for them to offer it.

I would say it's because they already have friendly contracts in place and having a device at budget could dig into those profit margins and damage those friendly agreements

The Sprint GNext wasn't the best either, but they at least got updates eventually, and the issue wasn't Sprint as much as it was Qualcom/CDMA stuff. And the Sprint GNex had 32 GB of memory, which was nice.
