I'm having issues with a "virus" redirecting me to weird warnings on Google or taking me to the play store. It's irritating me, I can't find a way to delete it. I've had my S7 for a week and already want to go back to my S5... Anyone else experiencing this issue or have a way to solve it?

Try rebooting to safe mode to see if you still have the same problem

Clear your browser history? Maybe something in there keeps redirecting you?

certain websites with shady ad streams can do this. Pirate Bay etc. It doesn't mean you have a virus, which is highly unlikely unless you sideloaded an APK from a shady source. If this is only happening to you in Chrome/Samsung browser that's likely the issue. I would install an adblocker if you're using Samsung Browser, or if you're on the Verizon version grab something like Adguard (which you will need to sideload).

In Chrome?

If so:

Settings > advanced > site settings > cookies

Turn it OFF and see if that fixes it. If so, leave it off for a few days then you can probably reenable it.

It might be an app. I've had it happen to me with several phones. It was always a music app that I wad using to download music. As soon as I'd uninstall the app, it would stop redirecting me.

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and CM Security. Run Malwarebytes and I found a file called /data/app/app.sun.project-1/base.apk. Demove that and that fixed my problem. It may say something about phone administrator. Click to open and you should see a blank spot that say's on like the other apps. Turn that off and it will let you uninstall that file. CM Security is just there to scan apps and so forth before installing. Hope this helps!!

I had a redirect that wanted to force me to download some crappy application and prevented me from closing the window. I had to reboot the phone to regain control. After this happened several times and persisted after clearing cache, I disabled Chrome and reverted to the factory version, re-enabled and the redirects seems to have ceased.

Hey! Sorry to hear about this. It's been something that has been affecting my phone. The name of the virus when it was first discovered was, "Google Redirect Virus." It would simply attach itself to your google email (so if you deleted/ fixed the problem the next time you open your email it starts the program back up) and infect Laptops/Desktops. In about 2015 the virus was recreated and now affects android devices connected to a gmail. It redirects you to a fake google website and will ask you install software. (don't test it. it will pull personal info and send it to someone just like trapsnake. <---google that.) Google or android currently doesn't have a solution. The only way to remove it from your device is to delete your google account and the back up data for your android and/or google account, factory reset your phone, create new accounts for both. Yes you have to delete all of it and start from scratch. Now downloading one app at a time and visiting one website at a time you can find how it is getting into your phone, but you will have to restart everything again. I've been emailing and talking to google support lately and been helping them identify where and how the actual virus is attaching to the email. Avast has removed it from some devices but it doesn't really work all to often.

Kapersky removed this virus on my sony z3 compact on marshmallow. The other anti viruses and other solutions didnt work for me.

Do not download anything by CM. Those are viruses and malware in themselves.

I have the exact same problem... I've had mine for a week also and miss my S4 already... I tried many virus and malware scans but nothing works... I'd really like to avoid a factory reset... please help!
