registering a refurbished note 8?

i just picked up a refurbished note 8 from amazon.

i'm trying to register it on samsung's website (google play credit would be nice!)...but it doesn't seem to like the serial number on the box or the one on the device.

does anybody know if this is even possible?

just got a note from custy svc....refurb'd devices don't be eligible...which makes the price savings kind of non-existant!
