I have a Nexus 4 that randomly crashes - usually due to a notification of some kind, but not always. 
The behavior when it crashes:
Lather, rinse, and repeat.
Here are the steps I've tried with troubleshooting/fixing thus far:
Now, I don't see the notification light when it crashes. The notification light flashing tipped me off to Facebook's app possibly causing problems. Sometimes I can go a whole day without a crash - but now I get 1-2 per day, then I get frustrated and hook it up to my battery pack so it stays working all day. But turning off all notifications would make the phone useless as I do use it for my work email and need to be able to check things on the go - in addition to the calendar notifications, etc.
I'm not sure what else to check. I had aLogcat installed and running, but unfortunately, the crash log resets upon restart, so that hasn't given me any data. Also, I haven't tried developer mode, but as the issue doesn't happen when the phone is connected to a power source (which would be the case if I have it connected to my computer for debugging), I didn't think that would give me any data either. If I'm wrong, I'm happy to try it.
Any ideas? Is my phone just going to **** and I need to upgrade? I love the size of the Nexus 4 and pure Android, so I'm hoping to solve this issue without needing new hardware.

- Phone screen is off.
- Sometimes, the notification light is blinking, but not always.
- Clicking the power button to wake the screen and unlock the phone gets no response. The screen does not light up or give me the unlock screen.
- The only way to fix it is to hold the power button down for 4-5 seconds (to force a shutdown) and power it up again.

- Replaced battery. Reduced the crashing, but did not eliminate it.
