Release Date

Yeah the 18th is looking good, a friend of mine has a relative working for sprint and the person said if he wanted a nexus they could order it now or the EVO around the 15th.

Just to put it in perspective, the original evo pre order was around May 13 with a release date of June 04. http://www.androidcentral.com/pre-order-your-htc-evo-now-best-buy

Which would make 22 days for the evo pre order to release date and 11 days for the evolte if we go with the 051812 release date. But I don't think the carriers think about the number of days between the two. This is just to show how long the wait was.

Oh my, I hope I am not reading too much into this, but I just was on a chat with a sprint rep (regarding another matter) and asked about the release date for the EVO 4G LTE. I didn't expect to get a real date answer, but the answer I got scares the heck out of me, here is what he said:

Mitchell C.: We'll update the information and give you the exact date online but its not possible to give it right now due to business policies. I hope you understand.
Mitchell C.: I would like to be able to give you a date, but right now, the only information that we've got is that it'll be launched mid 2012.

There is only one bright spot to this that really makes me wonder if this guy even has a clue. He went on to say this:

Mitchell C.: Please wait.
Mitchell C.: HTC EVO 4G will be available exclusively from Sprint on June 4, 2010 in all Sprint retail channels, including Telesales, Sprint.com and national retail partners, RadioShack, Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
Mitchell C.: EVO is priced at $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate (taxes excluded) with a new line activation or eligible upgrade.
Mitchell C.: Pre-registration is available now at HTC EVO 4G LTE coming to Sprint on May 7.
Mitchell C.: I hope that answers our query, Mike.
You: What?!? Did you read what you copied me on?
You: That was the EVO 4G, not the EVO 4G LTE -- the year of that announcement is 2010!!!!
Mitchell C.: I'm so sorry, Mike.
Mitchell C.: I sincerely apologize for the mistake.

It should be required that whenever a cell phone rep is hired, they are required to have an account on AC or any of the other Android Forums. I can't stand these "by the book" answer customer service reps who try to B.S. the customers.

Hate to burst the bubble, but the E4GLTE will not launch on the 18th. I would put my money on June 8 or 15.

Your friend, or their relative is wrong. The GN is not available for employee lines until at least the 17th. No word has come down about the E4GLTE.

Yep, I'm a Sprint employee.

Hmm, I would think if a Sprint employee knew about this, they would either know the actual release date or be guessing like the rest of us. Since your post is guessing at the date I wouldn't put too high a certainty on it.

Of course there is a definite possibility that nobody at Sprint knows for certain since maybe it's all tied to when their manufacturer actually delivers the devices.

I would hope that there will be an actual date come Monday at 8am but not holding my breath anymore.

I was at a best buy mobile store at the mall today jus to ask ?s about buying a cell phone through them and aske about te preorder of the Evo 4g lte and was told that they hope to hear something from corporate within the next couple of days just for the pre order date.

Then the guy asked another guy and he said the Mid of May. I said that's cool if it comes ou in te middle of May and then the guy looked at me and said in June. Which by the way he looked at me you could tell he didn't know. All I know is I an on preordering through Sprint.

Us why release the phone in June when the gs3 releases the same month...doesn't sound right.

We get a new store layout plan two weeks in advance of any new device launch, the only launch for 5/18 was the new LG Optimus.
That, combined with the fact that seed devices have not hit stores yet would put the date at being late May/Early June at the earliest. Seed devices typically hit at least 2 weeks before a phone launches, if there is a seed program, which there will be for the E4GLTE.

(SN: Seed devices [ or advocate program] is when an employee in each store recieves the phone early, trains on it and teaches the store how to operate and sell the phone)

Shouldn't be longer than a few weeks pre release Monday that's all I know first week June I guess

I think Sprint has to get this out by the end of May with the GSIII coming by end of June beginning of July.
