Reminder: Don't forget to trade in your old phone

I just sold my Droid X with the desktop dock on ebay for $100. I probably could've gotten more on Craigslist and without the fees ebay/Paypal charges, but I'm kinda paranoid with Craigslist. I feel like it's shady, especially reading about people getting shafted or shot up or something :p, even when meeting in a public place. But I'm sure you could probably get some good deals on there; I know my uncle certainly does.

Wow shot up? I haven't read anything about that. I have sold a lot of phones as well as countless other things and never had any problems. But I always do worry, looks like I will worry a little more next time.

@Tabguy

Just keep in mind that, in terms of convenience and salability, there is a HUGE difference between a really large piece of furniture and a phone which fits in someone's pocket. A sofa purchase needs far more advance planning regarding ,comfort, exact size, transportation issues since the majority of the time one must rent/borrow a larger vehicle than the average car. Then you need to coordinate with one (preferably two) other people for loading/unloading etc. Phones are a whole lot easier to deal with for both parties.

With the news feature reports on the increased prevalence of bedbugs, more people are reluctant to buy the types of used furniture which MIGHT typically harbor them.

Its not that uncommon for people to lose/drop/accidentally damage their phones and need something to tide them over until they're eligible for an update with their carrier. Obviously there aren't a lot of people with an urgent a need to replace their lost couch :)

Its just another case of supply and demand. And while I have often encountered couches and other large furniture pieces in the free section, I have yet to encounter any free phone offerings.

Ive done quite a lot of shopping on Craigslist and saved a LOT on all sorts of things so unless a phone is horrendously old and outdated, there wouldn't be that much of a problem for it to sell.

A big YEAH.! For Craigslist.

Verizon would give me $14 dollars for my Incredible, I will keep for a backup.

I'd give you $15 :D:D - seriously, $14 is a joke. Not only do you have a backup you can still use it for a music player or for Emails while on wifi.

Troof. And smart phones is a booming market especially eBay. Craigslist you may get lucky but people usually resort there for reaaaaly cheap deals or last resort for something sold out of stores.

I sold my last phone (Infuse 4g) on swappa.com for almost $300 in one day! Swappa charges a flat $10 fee, but then you gotta get raped by PayPal too.

Swappa was founded by an Android enthusiast, and deals only with Android phones.

I got a good deal on my old phone. Verizon gave me $130 for my Samsung Focus on AT&T. It sounds like this isn't normal. It's weird because I could probably only get $100 for it on Craigslist.

LoL ,, yeah no way would I sell my incredible for 14 dollars .I wont even sell my DX for 44 dollars either.I would give them to a friend(s) who needed them before I let vzw ripp me off on those suggested prices.:)
For now tho ones still in use along with my Nexus and other is a emergency backup.

Actually, my eyes have been opened. I've learned something that will help me in the future. Hopefully, others will learn from this also.

However, one of the common themes in this thread is that they've posted their phone for sale on Craigslist. Yet there's not a running theme that they've sold them on Craigslist.

I once posted a sofa and love seat on Cragslist for $100. The price was less than other comparable postings. After a month with not even a single email I took it off Craigslist and gave them away. So, I know from first hand experience that posting on Craigslist and selling are two completely different actions.

Don't know what posts you're looking at, I'm seeing SOLD on most of the peoples posts on here. This is just another way for verizon to rip clueless people off. Don't really mean that in a negative way, just saying people should get a clue, ebay is where it's at if you want to make any considerable amount of money selling their old devices. So, now you know. :-$

VERIZON gave you $130 for your SAMSUNG FOCUS on AT&T??? How does that work? They don't take phones from other carriers....

A discontinued phone from AT&T.... Unless they were trying to make a phone museum, there's just no way you got that much, if anything.
